Bottle 50cl. w. swing top @ Gasthof Weber by Brauerei Weber, Ringstrasse 46, 96114 Hirschaid-Robersdorf, Bavaria, Germany.
Clear medium to light dark brown amber color with a average to large, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, smoke. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long to average duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20100401]

Draft. A slighlty hazy orange beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma is sweet and rather smoky with notes of rope. The flavor is sweet with good notes of smoke from beechwood, though a bit less than in the aroma, also notes of rope. The body is a bit light, but otherwise nice.

(On tap) Clear, amber golden with a tiny head. Distinct aroma of smoke. Medium body completely dominated by smoke - the underlying malt is hard to detect. Lightly hoppy finish. 091106

UPDATED: SEP 27, 2008 Bottled at the brewpub. Pale brown, small head. Light tarry smoke aroma. Medium sweet and medium bodied with well rounded mouthfeel. Evidently smokey with tar as prime ingredient. salty quite bitter finish with lingering tar pastilles and salmiak. Very interesting rauchbier.

Bottle, 5.2% bought at the brewery. Nice smoke aroma, might get a little sour, though. Clear amber colour. Small white head. The smoke flavour is distinct, but not overwhelming. OK balanced, I guess, and no sourness in the flavour.

Ceramic mug. Chestnut colour. Assertive smoke aroma. Assertive smokey taste. Firewood and breadcrust malts. The smoke is bright and the carbonation pulls it across the palate well. Great woody finish with abundant smoke. One of the best rauchbiers I’ve tasted!

Koelschtrinker (10836) - Köln (Cologne), GERMANY - MAY 3, 2011

Dark ambercolor. Smoked ham aroma and flavor, more rounded as the Bamberg smoke, but not compromized by fruitiness or strong maltiness. Relatively short afteratste. Tasty, but not the best in its category.

Bottle at home. It’s warm golden with a white, creamy head, and the aroma has notes of a campfire and smoked malt. The flavour is light to moderately sweet with notes of camfire, beech-wood – and no smoked meat, which is a nice change. The finish in this charming smoked beer is dry with a light bitterness.

500ml bottle (Pikkulintu, Helsinki)
Clear brown, small head. Soft sweet elastoplast smoky aroma. Pleasant carbonation, smooth palate. Full body, pleasant elastoplast phenols in the taste too, and even continuing to the finish. There’s some creaminess too, and later some hint of ginger. Decent rauch punch, but really not too assertive or overpowering. Lovely.
