Wow, this is aggressive. 330ml bottle pours deep ruby brown with small head that soon dissipates. Nose is super non representative, pretty mild with some roasted chestnut, liquorice and unidentified sweets. Definitely has a bit of Roche about it on the nose. Tons of liquorice on the taste and shedloads of booze. After the taste buds recover there is some lingering roasted malty sweetness on the finish. Bonkers

Dark brown in colour with minimal head. Aroma is sweet, caramel malt to the fore and noticeable alcohol not unlike a sticky dessert wine. Taste is similar with a sweet and slightly cloying mouthfeel, little bitterness and some alcohol warmth.

maybe I’m just getting bored of pales but this is gorgeous. its easy to see from this why the most innovative us breweries are obsessed with emulating old british beer styles. molasses, treacle and roasted malts are leavened with a drying hop bitterness. hearty and sophisticated.
