Best by 5/13: Pours a deep brown with cream white head. The nose is a bit leathery, musty (oxidized) and well old. Taste was a bit card board, malty, dusty. I think this beer was past it’s prime.

A little cream and sugar, but mostly flat aroma. Brown color. Disappoint. Sweet but with a flavor I just don’t enjoy. The alcohol isn’t really evident but the beer has a stringy/strained flavor. Bummer.

Brown 330ml bottle, best before Sept 2008, drank July 2007. Poured into one of my Gordon Thistle glasses. Very dark brown/red with a well formed off-white head. The head stayed throughout the drink. Aroma was sweet malts and plum bread. Tangy, malty, old Sharaz wine flavour, very different from other Barley wines I have had over the years. Complexed and interesting. A very good beer. By far the best beer I have had from the Robinson brewery.

Bottle from Sainsburys May 7th 12. Smells sweet of caramel, toffee, bubblegum. Deep ruby red with a tight creamy head lasting for the entire drink. Taste disappointed me. It had a peppery sourness I didn’t like which overpowered everything else. The chocolate version was much nicer and not as sharp.

(Bottle). Clear, dark, red-brown. Persisting mid head. Mid carb. Strongly sweet toffee & molasses aroma, dark fruits, alcohol (not too strong), sweet caramelish malt, some fruity esters, grainy. Dark malts on taste, some roast, sweet fruitiness, spice. Quite bitter, bit tart on finish. Fruity, grainy, bitter aftertaste. Medium body, bit perfumey.
