Pours in dark color with almost no head. Aroma consists of dark fruits such as dried raisins, nuts, light alcohol, caramel. Taste is high on alcohol at first sip, goes in well balanced sweetness with little bit harsh bitterness. Body is light, oily with fair carbonation. A nice old ale indeed.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Sainsbury’s. It pours darkest ruby with a medium beige head. The nose is roasted malt, toast, spice, charred wood, cocoa, dark fruit and jammy berry. The taste is toasty, dark fruit, berry, vinous, wood, earth, light bitterness, chewy malt, spice, cocoa, varnish and some alcohol with a dry finish. Medium+ body and fine carbonation. Interesting, flavoursome and good depth. A classic.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Nice brew for a regular day. Pours out a dark muddy brown with a thcik beige head. The nose is mild but has nice roasted and chocolate malt notes regardless. A bit sweet and rich in the middle with a heavy toasted, roasted malt with toffee, chocolate and caramel. The finish has mild bitterness and has a clean balanced feel.

4.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Stop reading and go drink this. Right. Now. Fruity aroma. Dark chocolate brown pour, very light head. Classic dry ale finish you’d expect in a British pub ale, but so much more character and flavor. More like a porter at times. My god.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Dense ruby body with a thin beige head. No visible carbonation. Excellent lacing. Aroma of toffee, prunes and furniture polish. Medicinal flavour of TCP, hand sanitiser, toffee apple, wood, sugar and nuts. Thin body with a watery mouthfeel. Soft carbonation. Difficult to drink - I struggled with half a bottle. This pales in the face of pretty much Belgian Ale.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Appearance: Pours a dark brown body with a thin, brief, ivory-hued head.
Smell: A mingled of a surprising fruitiness of red berries, dates, cherry with sweetish malty accents of treacle, toffee, toasted biscuit tops. Also, some herbal, anise hints and a sniff of the alcohol.
Taste: A quick flush of sweet toffee and caramelized sugar with a lingering sweet-tart cherry fruitiness (with an additional handful of berries, dates). Faintly nutty, chocolatey. Herbal, leafy hops with a bitterness that melds to the alcohol warmth. A little licorice. A hint of soured treacle on the backhalf. Drying right at the last second of the finish.
Mouthfeel: Just a bit above medium-bodied.. Medium carbonation.
Overall: Quite decent. Would’ve preferred a bit more refinement and a slight, slight boost to the body for some desired chewiness.
