33cl bottle. Pours dark chocolate brown with a large, frothy white head. Looks extremely appetising in the glass, can’t wait to quaff it. Aroma is roasted malt and touch of raisins. Taste is where this beer excels - rich and deep sweetness with a hint of vinous fruits and a complex backnote of bitter roasted coffee. Feels full and warming in the mouth. A very satisfying beer.

Bottle. Really liked this beer. Deep, dark amber color with a small white head and no lace. Aroma was very mild but complex. Hints of chocolate, dried fruit and wisps of roasted grain and coffee. Taste was roasted gain and light chocolate at first with a sweet dreid fruit finish.

330ml bottle pours a dark amber color with a finger and a half of off-white head that leaves some spotted lacing on the glass. Aroma is dark pitted fruits and caramel with some hints of chocolate. Taste is pitted fruity and caramel malty sweetness with a roasted grain and grassy hop bitterness. Medium bodied with average carbonation. A nicely done brew for the style, but certainly not the world’s best ale.

UPDATED: JAN 4, 2014 I hadn’t had one of these for a couple of years until thsi evening. This is a real classic! It pours a nice dark ruby colour with not much at all in the way of head and has pleasing figgy fruity aroma with roasted malt. The taste is certainly where this beer excells, complex and full of fruity notes, malty goodness and a slight port like sweetness which isn’t too cloying. Lots going on here in the most pleasing of ways, one to really enjoy on a winter’s night!

Deep mahogany brown. Nose of sweet malts, stewed figs and prunes, red wine grapes. Taste follows...deep and complex, slightly sweet malty finish.
