Bière brune bien translucide, col crème disparaissant rapidement. Arômes de caramel et de mélasse. Très ronde en bouche, mais pas outrageusement pour une scotch ale. Finale caramélisee et alcoolisée. Très bonne bière, a ré-essayer.

Pours a three finger light head that fades slowly leaving a good lace. Opaque brown color. Good carbonation and medium bodied. Light molasses nose, flavor is dark fruit and baked chocolate. Higher ABV is hidden. $4.99 for a 330ml bottle at Julio’s Liquors Westborough, Ma.

330ml bottle poured into a snifter. Pours Lovely very dark ruby-brown colour with a thick and long-lasting beige head, leaving only some lacing. Strong alcohol & bread aroma first, then some chocolate, roasted malts and dried fruit creeps in. The taste is rich and pretty much follows the nose with bread and malty notes, a hint of chocolate and dried fruit also being present. Unfortunately this lovely combination is somewhat ruined by a very noticeable presence of alcohol all the way through. The mouthfeel is quite smooth with mild carbonation, followed by an abrupt woody and very alcoholic finish... This very clear trail of alcohol from start to finish has ruined what otherwise would’ve been an exceptional ale.

330ml bottle. Brown body with a medium lace leaving head. Aromas of dried figs, wood, some lactose, hint of herbs and alcohol. Taste is more spicy, with wood, milk chocolate, wineous notes, light syrup and alcohol.

Bought this at Spirit Haus in Amherst, notable for its broad selection (for this area) as well as for its shelves of old dusty bottles. This one, Batch 4174, was dusty (should have noticed!) and poured completely flat, a particularly old ale. Live and learn. Smells of sweet malt and alcohol. Nicely rounded flavor of caramel and fruit, solid body, rich dark fruit, booze and a bit of hops. Well balanced, and in spite of the near total lack of carbonation in this bottle, an enjoyable drink
