I quite enjoyed this. Wonderful malty minerally flavor. Some boozy warmth. However it was a bit too drinkable. Serving: Bottle

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
11.2 oz. bottle, consumed on 12-17-14. Pours dark brown with a slight maroon hue and a small amount of beige head. Nice color but I would like to see more head. Tangy, bready aroma emphasizes English yeast. Clay and Play-Doh scents. Not so appealing smell. Bready taste features a licorice flavor as well as burnt prune. Bitter, plummy, toasty. Flavors of red grape and artificial grape. Somewhat bitter, medicinal, licorice-like finish and aftertaste. Not my kind of beer but not offensive. Medium body. Utterly forgettable palate effects.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Stunned to find this is unrated. Nose is very malty, slight licorice, very nutty, light dark fruits. Taste is malty, very fruity with plums, berry, raisins, leading to a touch of chocolate. Mouthfeel a touch thin.
I don’t know if I’ve changed or the beer has, but it’s not really the Old Tom of my youth, I need to have it again on draft. It’s a decent old ale, nothing more. NB They need to knock the unattributed to ’World Best Beer’ thing on the head.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
From a 33cl embossed bottle. A very deep brown with amber head. Rich aromas of roasted malts, raisins, chocolate and coffee. The taste is also complex, with a mixture of flavours that are very mouth-filling. Chocolate, prunes, raisins, liquorice and leather are all there and plenty of hop (Goldings?) flavours also. Long dry finish dominated by coffee and hop flavours. ’The World’s Best Ale’ is says on the label. Mmm...certainly an English Classic....

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark reddish liquid with creamy head. Nutty to fruit aroma. Taste of roasted malts and some heavy red whine. Little sour. I enjoyed the aftertaste more than drinking the beer.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Smells like iron and some piece of cloth to dy dishes with. Looks brilliantly dark, bottle has charisma. Taste uberheavy in the beginning, then drinkable and then very fine. Worth it.
