Dark ruby, almost black color, minimal beige head. Aroma of dark fruits, raisins, coffee and hint of port wine. Medium sour sweet taste of caramel, dry fruits, chocolate and spices with a bit alcoholic gentle bitter finish. Nice, complex and interesting warming ale.

Bottle. Poured a dark clear brown color with an average frothy tan head that mostly lasted with very good lacing. Moderate to heavy roasted sweet malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium toasted sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. This is a good beer.

Couleur brune; pratiquement pas de mousse; odeur fruitée, vineuse; goût malté avec une légère amertume; les 8,5% se font très dicrets

11.2 oz. bottle, consumed on 12-17-14. Pours dark brown with a slight maroon hue and a small amount of beige head. Nice color but I would like to see more head. Tangy, bready aroma emphasizes English yeast. Clay and Play-Doh scents. Not so appealing smell. Bready taste features a licorice flavor as well as burnt prune. Bitter, plummy, toasty. Flavors of red grape and artificial grape. Somewhat bitter, medicinal, licorice-like finish and aftertaste. Not my kind of beer but not offensive. Medium body. Utterly forgettable palate effects.

Stunned to find this is unrated. Nose is very malty, slight licorice, very nutty, light dark fruits. Taste is malty, very fruity with plums, berry, raisins, leading to a touch of chocolate. Mouthfeel a touch thin. I don’t know if I’ve changed or the beer has, but it’s not really the Old Tom of my youth, I need to have it again on draft. It’s a decent old ale, nothing more. NB They need to knock the unattributed to ’World Best Beer’ thing on the head.

caramel, earthy, woody, dark brown, minimal head, light sweetness, salty, lightly bitter, full body, flat, long finish. Very nice and strong ale. I liked it.

From a 33cl embossed bottle. A very deep brown with amber head. Rich aromas of roasted malts, raisins, chocolate and coffee. The taste is also complex, with a mixture of flavours that are very mouth-filling. Chocolate, prunes, raisins, liquorice and leather are all there and plenty of hop (Goldings?) flavours also. Long dry finish dominated by coffee and hop flavours. ’The World’s Best Ale’ is says on the label. Mmm...certainly an English Classic....

Dark reddish liquid with creamy head. Nutty to fruit aroma. Taste of roasted malts and some heavy red whine. Little sour. I enjoyed the aftertaste more than drinking the beer.
