Old Tom's label says "Barley Wine" but underneath it a tiny black sticker says "Style Ale" (importers?) This rather complex beer comes out of the bottle looking like black coffee...until you see the light hitting it and sending out flickers of lovely garnet red. Quite striking. The beer has medium carbonation and a small lacy tan head. Aromatics are not as malt saturated as you might expect and there's noticeable toffee, maybe chocolate and bark (licorice, or sassafras) or root-like characteristics. Nice, but subtle herbal hops and dried fruit, too. The mouthfeel is rich and silky, not syrupy, well flavored and very drinkable. The finish is pleasantly bitter and almost dry. Nice, but somehow not a home run.

One of the greatest things I have tasted. I will certainly be purchasing this again.

Brown with medium head. The beer has a strong dried and cooked dark fruit aroma with a bit smoke, bubblegum, honey and cake. Flavor is quite the same. Well balanced and the alcohol seam to be well hidden. Soft carbonation and medium density but oily mouth feel. Aftertaste is spicy with dried plum sourness. Good one.

Escura com raios avermelhados e média formação de espuma. Notas de toffee, malte tostado, chocolate, café e lúpulo floral. Corpo médio com final longo e retrogosto bem maltado e com amargor acentuado.

Aroma: chocolate, roasted nuts, burnt caramel Taste: medium bitter, little sweet Palate: thin, but quite a mouthful Overall: really good ale with its own character somewhere between a belgian double, a stout and a porter. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle, 330ml. A clear dark ruby beer with a big foamy head. Sweet aroma of roasted malt, nuts, molasses and spices. Taste is bitter with a strong finish. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation and astringency. Rich character that reminds me of port wine,

Bottle, 33cl. Clear dark ruby with a large, frothy/creamy brown head. Fiery aromas of sweet dark fruits, roasted caramel, alcohol. Medium to robust bodied with moderate carbonation. Rich and creamy, with a deep chocolate undertone and subtle fruity hop character. Smooth and pleasant finish of roasted malts and port wine

Wow, this is aggressive. 330ml bottle pours deep ruby brown with small head that soon dissipates. Nose is super non representative, pretty mild with some roasted chestnut, liquorice and unidentified sweets. Definitely has a bit of Roche about it on the nose. Tons of liquorice on the taste and shedloads of booze. After the taste buds recover there is some lingering roasted malty sweetness on the finish. Bonkers

Dark brown in colour with minimal head. Aroma is sweet, caramel malt to the fore and noticeable alcohol not unlike a sticky dessert wine. Taste is similar with a sweet and slightly cloying mouthfeel, little bitterness and some alcohol warmth.

Dark red with brown notes. Thin beige head. Chocolate, liquorice, alcohol, rubber, malt, smoke and citrus in the nose. Somewhat acidic. Cookie, dark chocolate, liquorice, fruits in the flavour. Round with sweetness and dry bitter finish.
