Originally labelled as Chocolate Tom. Label was changed to read Old Tom With Chocolate circa 2011.
Old Tom with chocolate is an indulgent rich combination of Robinsons’ award winning Old Tom and the finest cocoa. It is a superior full bodied strong ale filled with the flavour of ripe malt and velvety smooth chocolate teased together with an inspired touch of Madagascan bourbon vanilla.
Chocolate Tom is a deliciously indulgent addition to the Old Tom range, with a recipe developed by Robinsons and the renowned chocolatier Simon Dunn.
With a distinctive ’natural’ milky sweet chocolate palate balanced by underlying hop and roasted malt characters, Chocolate Tom is a superior, rich and warming speciality beer with a dark mahogany colour.

Gut!

Bottle 0.33L. Clear, deep copper body with average, frothy, tan head, mostly lasting with some lacing. Moderate malty (caramel, roasted) aroma with clear notes of chocolate and vanilla. Moderate-to-heavy sweet flavour with light bitter character. Medium body with watery-to-oily texture; soft carbonation.

Interesting brew, quita a rich in taste, I would say, decent taste, but not well ballanced. Nice hints choco, coffee, caramel and malts. Aroma wasn’t so good, but quita drinkable brew. Nice job!

Bottle from SuperAlko in Tallinn (€ 2.45). BB Jul 2015. Pours a rather ugly murky coppery brown with chunks of sediment despite it having stood still in the basement for a few weeks. Head is big-bubbled with non-specific colour. On the nose it’s… hmm… more caramel than chocolate, also dark fruits (dates, prunes). In fact, if I didn’t know I would have trouble guessing chocolate being an ingredient. Well, alright, as it’s warmed some more I get chocolate. It’s also pretty noticeable in its flavour. But that’s very caramelly too. Yet it’s still got a lot more bitterness than sweetness, which I consider a bit strange. Body is medium, carbonation rather crisp, but in the finish there’s a metallic tingle and some unpleasant graininess. I think this is the least enjoyable of the 3 Old Toms I’ve recently had (in addition to this, the original and with ginger). But it’s not entirely bad.
