2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Pours clear mahogony with a good white head. Aroma is quite striking. Smells strongly of a weak, milky cocoa. The flavour has more of that same cocoa flavour. it feels a bit forced. The malt clashes with the chocolate milk. There’s a brief bitterness on the end. Pretty poor really. I hoped this would be better.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Bottle Barn in Santa Rosa, CA. Pours dark copper with a 3.5 finger foamy/creamy beige head. Foam cuts aroma, but chocolate comes through. Med minus body. Flavor is smooth, silky chocolate. There’s a lot of dark malt with a hint of treacle, but the main thing is the milk chocolate. Nicely balanced. There’s enough hop bitter to fend off the malt, and on balance I’d vote for bitter finish. It’s really a delightful rendition of a traditional brew.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
June 2011: 330ml Brown bottle , best before Sep 2012, poured into a ’Hoegaarden Grand Cu’ stemmed tulip.
Good reddy brown colour, head soon left leaving a tan coloured collar and a few pieces of lacing as the beer level fell.
Pleasant chocolate aroma is given off which carries on into the taste, true chocolate flavours throughout make this an interesting blend.
Different and well made, good carbonisation and throughly enjoyable. Really for a winters night, but equally as good as a summer nightcap.
