COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Pasteurised.
Originally labelled as Chocolate Tom. Label was changed to read Old Tom With Chocolate circa 2011.
Old Tom with chocolate is an indulgent rich combination of Robinsons’ award winning Old Tom and the finest cocoa. It is a superior full bodied strong ale filled with the flavour of ripe malt and velvety smooth chocolate teased together with an inspired touch of Madagascan bourbon vanilla.
Chocolate Tom is a deliciously indulgent addition to the Old Tom range, with a recipe developed by Robinsons and the renowned chocolatier Simon Dunn.
With a distinctive ’natural’ milky sweet chocolate palate balanced by underlying hop and roasted malt characters, Chocolate Tom is a superior, rich and warming speciality beer with a dark mahogany colour.

Tasted 2010-03-29. Bottle. Pours clear, dark, amber with off-white head. Cocoa dominates the aroma. It reminds me of Youngs double chocolate stout, but the comparison stops at the aroma, for the taste shows, that this is primarily an old ale. Mildly acidic, slightly malty. Very balanced and very subtle in all aspects. Lotsa ppl find it artificial, but I like it - very much indeed. The cocoa goes very well with the old ale characteristics IMO.

Bottled (BZ, BB 01/2011)
Dark ruby clear color, steady creamy beige head, lace. Strong, mostly artificial chocolate aroma and cocoa powder. Medium-bodied, a crisp carbonation. Flavor is dominated by artifical chocolate, but as it is not overly sweet, it’s more or less ok. Aftertaste has hints of brandy, hops and harsh malts. Ok.

[bottle--thanks, cgreb!] Nice chocolate and vanilla aroma with notes of caramel and coffee. Clear, orange-brown-amber under a bubbly, khaki top. Smooth, chocolate toffee flavour with notes of apples and coffee and moderate bitterness. Light to medium body, tangy mocha finish, moderate carbonation.

Bottled 33cl. Ordered from www.bierzwerg.de. Banana, artificial Cadbury’s chocolate and a huge amount of fugde in the nose. Sweet. The taste is dominated by fugde and banana. Decent lacework. I didn’t enjoy this beer.

Bottle. Pours a clear nutbrown beer with no head. The aroma is sweet chocolate. The flavor follows the nose closely. The palate is sweet and overall a little too sweet.

Bottled. Brown with a small off-white head. Sweet milk chocolate aroma. Sweet and cloying chocolate flavour
Earlier Rating: 3/23/2009 Total Score: 2.6
Slightly hazy copper with a lasting off-white head. Sweet chocolate and cocoa aroma. To my taste, lacking in beer aroma. Sweetish and malty beer with a lot of cocoa flavour. I recognize it’s well made, but not to my taste.
