Originally labelled as Chocolate Tom. Label was changed to read Old Tom With Chocolate circa 2011.
Old Tom with chocolate is an indulgent rich combination of Robinsons’ award winning Old Tom and the finest cocoa. It is a superior full bodied strong ale filled with the flavour of ripe malt and velvety smooth chocolate teased together with an inspired touch of Madagascan bourbon vanilla.
Chocolate Tom is a deliciously indulgent addition to the Old Tom range, with a recipe developed by Robinsons and the renowned chocolatier Simon Dunn.
With a distinctive ’natural’ milky sweet chocolate palate balanced by underlying hop and roasted malt characters, Chocolate Tom is a superior, rich and warming speciality beer with a dark mahogany colour.

Bottle, shared with my wife (who liked it more than I did). The aroma is dominated by chocolate-caramel extract character. That same character interferes with the base beer character and imparts an undesirable cola-like sweetness as well. Not an improvement on the original.

.33l bottle from Alcotraz Pours clear copper with low, thick tan head. Leaves some lacing. Aroma is dark bread, dark malts, chocolate porridge, vanilla and syrup. Maybe a hinta of ash. Flavor is mostly same with some hopsy finish and hinta of alcohol.

A dark redbrown beer pours to my glass with a nice beige head that settles down to a nice foam cloud over the drink. The aroma is heavy with strong, sweet malts, sour cherry and a hint of chocolate. The taste is also heavily malty, bitter, a bit sour and does have a hint of chocolate with sweetness. The texture is a bit thin but with nice carbonation. All in all, I’d have preferred to have had the original, which is a genuinely great beer. It was a bit of a disappointed to me to see only this Old Tom in the beer shelf of the Lithuanian market I bought this from.

Poured a deep red cough syrup colour with loose beige head than vanished quick. Aroma thick of sweet malts and sour cherry. Taste a bold mix of bitter-sweet malts, moving to big dry woody finish that may pass for cocoa dust, but I can’t detect any obvious chocolate flavours. Palate watery yet moderate body due to carbonation.

Poured from 330mL bottle. Clear amber with minimal beige head. Aroma of milk chocolate and vanilla. Flavour same with a bit of malt. Medium body. Could be a little stronger in flavour - a little subdued.

Pours a dark mahogany with almost no head. Aroma of sweet malts, caramel. Taste is a bit bitter, some sweet chocolate, but not really all that pleasant. Regular Old Tom is far superior to this one.
