Bottle pours clear yet opaque amber brown with small creamy light tan head and some speckled lace. Aromas of sweet malts and cocoa, doughy yeast esters and floral hops. Medium light chewy body, chocolate being apparent but balanced with the nutty base and deep caramel malt complexity. Finishes clean lightly hoppy with the hints of cocoa and malt body lingering semi sweet

From a 330ml bottle on 6/4/2013. Pours a clear quite dark amber with a small head. The aroma features quite a lot of chocolate and chico baby. the chocolate dominates the flavour, though there are also some roasty, spicy and herbal notes. Finishes with a medium bitterness. The carbonation is medium. Quite a nice drop.

330ml bottle from Dan Murphy’s. Low level of light brown foam above a reddish brown beer. Thin looking with some chocolate in the aroma. Chocolate in the background with something that I just can’t put my finger on.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Clear dark brown body with red highlights and an off-white head. Picking up vanilla and stone fruit on the nose. The taste is initially dominated by dark fruits (sultanas, stewed plums) before a mild but smooth chocolate taste washes through. Finishes quite sweet with a chocolatey aftertaste. Everything is surprisingly well integrated. Not bad at all.

Great chocolate aroma, Mouldy tang, musky, disappointing finish. Like eating chocolate that’s gathered dust.

Pours a brown amber color in the glass. Slight wet cardboard and toasty malt aroma. Milk chocolate flavor upfront followed by a clean dry alcohol note. Overall, its decent but not that exciting...

Bottle, from Rhythm & Booze, Barton upon Humber. Deep chestnut brown, thin but lasting tight off white head and good condition. Sweet and peppery in the nose with a gentle bitter chocolate powder note and a suggestion of biscuits. Slightly fruity initially in the mouth with a dry woodiness developing before a chocolate sweetness gives it a degree of balance, finish is slightly spicy but muted, with a quite harsh fruity bitterness developing and lingering

Quick review--had this a few days ago while on cruise in Spain. Decent beer selection with a few I hadn’t seen before, this being one of them. Pretty delicious--remarkably light-bodied for a "chocolate beer" (accustomed to the viscous imperial stouts). Very drinkable and solid malt-forward beer.

UPDATED: SEP 6, 2013
May 2012 - Room temp bottle named ’Chocolate Tom’. Nice chocolately start (caramel/toffee chocolate liquer tastes)- bittersweet aftertaste. Really nice beer. 4.1
June 2013 - Cold bottle, this time called ’Old Tom with Chocolate’. Murky dark red. Head doesn’t endure. Smells yeasty. Typical old ale taste with background chocolate syrup. Nowhere near as nice as the last one. Maybe it doesn’t lend itself to being chilled. 3.4
