Originally labelled as Ginger Tom. Label was changed to read Old Tom With Ginger circa 2011.
Ginger Tom is a lively breed indeed, a subtle snap of ginger creates lovely purring warmth for those cold winter nights, or a refreshing summer beverage when served over ice.
Specially brewed using an infusion of Chinese bruised ginger root and botanical extracts, this warming speciality ale has a pronounced ginger and spiced herb palate complemented by a sweet roasted malt dryness and wonderful ginger after burn.
Ginger Tom is a richly flavoured dark oak coloured ale with distinctive aromas of peppery spice and sweet ginger.

Dark dep amber brown with a frothy, lasting tan head. Smells of strong liquorish, ginger, malt, roasted malt, spice and ginger. Medium to light oily body and light carbonation. Tastes like soda but with strong liquorish. elements, Roasted malt with strong dry ginger and a bitter rather metalic finish. The Old Tom is good but the ginger here makes it worse. An interesting novelty though.

As Marks & Spencer Ginger Ale. Clear amber orange beer, medium white head. Nose is spicy ginger, some malts and caramel, toasty notes. Flavor is pretty gingery and malty, with an almost peppery-gingery finish. Some sweetness and caramel in the mix. Drinkable.

Bottle from SuperAlko in Tallinn (€ 2.45). BB Jun 2015. Pours a clear chestnutty colour. Head light beige. Quite big. Retaining. Lacing. On the nose it’s ginger lemonade and sugar. Taste is… sweet, bitter and spicy… wouldn’t say it’s balanced. Where the ginger retreats, then it’s caramel dominating. There’s quite a lot of ginger spiciness in the finish after a large gulp. Body medium, carbonation soft, palate creamy smooth. Overall a caramelly sweet ale spiced with ginger. Not offending, not bad, but not exactly good either.

Bottle thanks to allmyvinyl. Appearance - deep amber to brown with an orange chink. Nose - light creamy toffee, hint of ginger. Taste - more toffee, hobnobs and ginger increases at the back of the palate. Ginger biscuits. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a fairly decent finish, if a bit too gingery. Overall - decent and the ginger is not too intrusive.

UPDATED: MAR 13, 2015 15.7.2014. Dark brown with white head. Ginger can be smelled from distance. Smells like coca cola with ginger. Also some herbs. Taste is quite sweet with malts, vanilla and ginger. Slight ginger afterburn along with sweetness at finish. More than beer it tastes liie ginger cola.

UPDATED: JAN 9, 2015 My bottle actually says "Ale with Ginger Root and Pear Juice;" I’m assuming it’s the beer listed here. Aroma: Pronounced ginger over semi-sweet malts that are a little nutty and have hints of tobacco leaf. Appearance: Murky dark brown pour with a bubbly tan head that settles into a bubble ringed skin. Flavor: Sharply gingery up front with malts adding more body than flavor; malt flavors become a little more apparent as this warms. Palate: Medium body, slick texture, flat carbonation, long finish. Overall: I actually liked this quite a bit; I’m quite the ginger lover (our state soft drink is a ginger ale) and this definitely hit my ginger sweet spot. Yet, there’s enough beer character here to stop this from descending into the realm of alco-pop (for me, at least). One to try for ginger lovers (the spice, not people with red hair).

This beer has ginger in the nose and in the smell. The heavy body compensates with the typical aggressive ginger spice bite. The taste is surprisingly round yet ginger spicy supported by a very fine carbonation. The beer makes me curious how the old tom without ginger tastes.
