Trooper is a premium British beer inspired by Iron Maiden and handcrafted at Robinsons brewery. Being a real ale enthusiast, vocalist Bruce Dickinson has developed a beer which has true depth of character. Malt flavours and citric notes from a unique blend of Bobec, Goldings and Cascade hops dominate this deep golden ale with a subtle hint of lemon.

Here, in my opinion, we have a great example of a hoppier-tasting beer done right. I figured this as a pale ale, but apparently it’s an ESB? Seems to be not nearly as complex as an ESB but okay... Appearance is amber/light burnt orange with a slightly puffy head. Aroma is extremely pleasant, like sweet rain with a slight hop scent. Flavor is well-done for a hoppier beer: a good dose of bitterness that is not offensive like many "craft" IPAs, with a solid malt foundation and a hint of the floral/spicy character of the English Bitter style. Palate is pleasantly dry, with a sharp bitter taste that doesn’t overstay its welcome. Overall, a very decent hoppy beer, though for my tastes, it’s still a little too hoppy. If you like this one, give Wychwood Brewery’s Goliath a try.

Flaska från styvbrorsan. Klar rödbrun med vitt skum. Doftar lätt av rostad malt, lite karamellig och fruktsötma. Smakar detsamma. Typisk ESB skulle jag säga... ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Taste is a bit standard for this type of brew. Pour is a light amber with a thin head.

Clear brown-red, strong white head. Faint caramel-roasted malt notes. Somewhat watery, with notes of caramel and... umami? I sweat that’s some sausage in there. Must be the stroke kicking in. Anyway - okay, would go for another.

500 ml bottle. Pours a clear, golden orange with a very thin, off-white head. Aroma is toasted malt and caramel with a faint fruity note. Sweet flavour of toasted malt, caramel and a weak citrus note with a dry, bitter, hoppy finish. Medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. A fairly average Bitter/ESB.
