3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle at The Penguin. Wet cat food on prising the cap- oh dear. The aroma then moves into cheesy old hop, dampness, mouldy lime..Iím thinking Drie Fonteinen Oude Gueuze. Clear to PJ hazy with a slim white cap and little lace flecks. Firm and still with odd bits of lime and maybe even lychee poking through the cheese and steaming, dung-spattered rhinoblanket. Cheesy like dung. Warm bath water reckons the missus. Out there. In a good way.

2011-06-23, bottle from Maruhn, Darmstadt, 7-3-6-3-13=32
Hazy blond color; small head. Interesting aroma, some malt, hop and citrus fruits. The body is lean, at least stronger than the East Coast Ale tasted side by side, with light malt flavor and correct bitterness. Not bad.

Hazy blond color; small head. Light hop aroma. Some malt flavor, light residual sweetness, with very citrusy hops. Quite good.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Poured very carefully to keep that yeast in the bottle, as it adds an overpoweringly powdery taste; all the same the beer rests a hazy amber in the glass. Thereís really not much of a head to speak of but there is a persistent lacing which lasts throughout. Nose is of wet - almost slimy - hops, very green though lacking those wanted resinous notes; thereís a cross of peach and orange, with the malts showing themselves in a grain-like sugariness. The taste is much the same as the aroma, with a bitterness thatís out of balance with the malts, making this a very hoppy yet one note ale. A touch on the thin side and a little gammy in the mouth. Finishes well though, the hops develop into a pineapple/citrus end which cleans some of the doughy yeast. Overall, an acceptable pale ale - though it would benefit with a more complex malt profile and perhaps a percent or two higher ABV.
