Commercial Description:
The top product from the Rochefort Trappist brewery. Dark color, full and very impressive taste. Strong plum, raisin, and black currant palate, with ascending notes of vinousness and other complexities.

A: Poured with a large, off-white head... that surprisingly diminished to about 1/4 finger size over a minute or two. Body is cloudy and murky, with a dark brown color. Some lacing, but not as much as I’d expect. S: Aroma is of some light, bready yeast, clove, and light alcohol as well. Some other things in there I can’t put my finger on, but very pleasant overall. T: Wow... lightly sweet at the beginning, with spices present (cloves?). Continues to change as it finishes slightly warm due to the high alcohol content. Taste stays for a long time and continues to kick. M: Full-bodied and creamy, with average carbonation. Excellent. D: A fantastic sipping beer... the alcohol content luckily keeps it from being TOO drinkable, but it’s an excellent beer to sit back with and let the flavors come out even more as it warms.

Bottle. Murky dark brown pour with a big thick beige head. Boozy, malty, fruity aroma. Sweet, malty, dark fruits, complex, slight chocolate taste. This is a rich filling beer but it is also a classic. Probably one of the best beers in the world.

Thick brown body coupled with a lasting half-inch thick tan head and heavy lacing. High octane aroma with distinctive red grapes, figs and prunes. Lots of sweet bran and other rich dark malt notes. Filling and rather sweet, fairly boozy and hot. Toasted malts galore with some nuttiness as well as a mild chocolate characteristic. Fermented, sweet, dark fruits and thick molasses. Musty yeast and a big alcohol burn. Really nice, but I’ll take St. B’s over this any day.

Aroma: Plums, dark fruit, caramel, yeast. Appearance: Dark murkey reddish-brown, thin lasting head that leaves lacing. Flavor: Rich dark Fruit, chocolate, sweet caramel, yeast, a little spice. Palate: medium body, creamy, lively, astringent, with some alcohol. Overall Impression: This beer is the best out of all Rochefort 6/8/10. It is full of the flavors that make the 6 good, and the 8 better, but I don’t have to struggle to try to taste the goodness b/c there is so much there.

beautiful dark body with a tan off white head which sticks around and does not disappear. its lacy and stick to the edges of my tulip glass. great maltiness across the tip of the tounge with almost a hint of sweet candied chocolate in the back of the palate. co2 level is excellent for this style of beer and is not filling and wish i could drink more. sip slowly and enjoy every bit of this beer on your tongue before consuming. this is a great beer and i think a lot of people would really get into this one.

First impression is a very positive one as a very nice thick white head forms. It is controlled, and not the head bomb I have seen in several belgians. Liquid is a very dark and murky, muddy brown. A little backstory, out of the big three quads, this is the only that I have never tried. I much prefer Bernardus to Westy, in this style anyway. Let’s see where this one stacks up. In the aroma department, we are looking complex. Dark fruit, floral characters, grapes, banana, and light breadiness over booze. A good scent that reminds me of something in between the Westy 8 and 12. Extremely complex, but very welcoming. Taste is surprisingly good, already ahead of the overly clovey Westy in my book. Not overpowering but immense and complex in it’s own right, Rochefort 10 starts clean with a lot of the characteristics of the aroma dancing around the palate, most notably dark fruit. This isn’t as heavy as the Westy, but no less complex. Palate is medium to thick in body, medium to high in carbonation. Extremely impressed with this one. I’ll have to do a side by side with Bernardus 12 to see which I prefer in the end, though initial thoughts is that Rochefort is the more fulfilling beer.

Bottle pours murky brown in color with a thin beige head. The nose has a lot going on, but what mainly stands out is raisins, brown sugar, bubblegum and a slight bit of alcohol. Flavor follows with the same, but also adding notes of black currant, apples, and a certain "yeasty" quality. The overall body is full and well rounded. Top class beer for sure.
