whiterabbit (20), Australia Aug 13, 2009 I know I should love this but I didn’t. Maybe I had it too cold but it was too strong on the nose (even in a big Duvel Glass). Pours and looks beautiful and even finishes nicely. Will have to try this again as I feel like I must be missing something! tripelthreat (75), Soquel, California, USA Aug 13, 2009 Dark brown body with off-white head. Multiple ripe dark fruits, spice, wood and alcohol in the nose. Flavor is spicy, semi-sweet, some bitterness, and noticeably boozy. Somewhat thin with moderate carbonation. Good but quads just don’t stand out for me. topherh (878), Kearney, Missouri, USA Aug 13, 2009 Bottle pours hazy brown with a beige head. Aroma is lots of sweet malt, dark fruits, and spicy alcohol. Flavor is sweet, raisiny, with boozy notes. I actually preferred the 6 and 8. Rynoplasty (500), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Aug 12, 2009 Pours hazy dark amber brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is yeasty dark fruits, raisin and hints of toffee. Flavor is dark malts, candi sugar, currant and a little bit of warming. Great stuff. USCBeerMan (103), Columbia, South Carolina, USA Aug 11, 2009 330 ml bottle: The overall impression I received from reading countless ratings is far from what my bottle poured. The aroma was moderate and undefined. alcohol was noticeable but not in a good way. The appearance is good but you cant judge a book by it’s cover and the flavor was disappointing, with so many rating on this beer already I just wasn’t pleased with what was in my bottle. I will have to give this beer another shot and hope next go around things are better. The St. Bernardus Abt 12 is truly a much better beer all around. note666 (282), Eindhoven, Netherlands Aug 10, 2009 09-08-10 330 ml bottle. reddish brown colour. creamy head. taste is sweet herbale with alcohol. beernovice39 (237), South Carolina, USA Aug 8, 2009 The wife says this was everything she wanted it to be. Kinda like a wine. I tasted, frowned and moved on to a real beer. Wine like scent, lots of sweet fruit. Pours off brown/tan with light head. Rating is the wife’s! Bejaaamin (110), London, Ontario, Canada Aug 8, 2009 Deep dark brown, light head. Smells so sweet, so good, dried figs, brown sugar, coffee, some cocoa notes, spicey. nice on the palate, almost like a thin syrop, medium carb. tastes fantastic. tastes very sweet, toffee, sweet spices, sweet finish. one of the best trappist beers for sure.
