Commercial Description:
The top product from the Rochefort Trappist brewery. Dark color, full and very impressive taste. Strong plum, raisin, and black currant palate, with ascending notes of vinousness and other complexities.

.33l bottle. Wow! I expected to be disappointed because of the hype I see in the ratings on this website. What an impressive beer. Dark brown body with a nice cream head. Sediment actually didn’t fall to the bottom of the glass which was weird to me. It stayed where it was throughout the body as if it were a gell and not a liquid. This was really freakin cool. The aroma was about the same as the 8R but the taste went above and beyond. I got cocoa and caramel on the front and bitter on the back. I loved it. I also tasted the raisin and current but only slightly. Great drink that I’ll enjoy again and again!

I can’t even begin to describe this beer, it is so wonderful. It pours a dark brown with a large, thick head. Taste is malty, fruity, chocolaty. It is a dry semi-sweet beet, not overpowering like some.

Appearance: Deep murky brown. Thick off-white head. Smell: Spice, fruits (raisin), melon. Taste: caramel or molasses, spices, mixed fruits, and warming alcohol. Yes, the alcohol is in the taste, but it’s complimentary. A bit peppery. As it begins to warm there is a chocolate note in there, and it gets a little sweeter. Tingly carbonation up front, but not too much. Lingering touch of sweetness in the finish. Just enough hop presence to thoroughly balance the brew. Mouth feel: Creamy, rich, smooth on the palate. I get a slight drying effect as well. Drinkability: This is a wonderful beer! Absolutely top notch.

330ml bottle into Trappist glass. An opaque dark brown beer with a creamy off white head that dissipated quite quickly providing fair lacing. Rich malty aromas of dark fruits (cherries, plums), banana, toffee and dark chocolate. The palate is thickish and fruity finishing with a gentle spicy hop presence and a soothing alcoholic warmth. The finish reminds me of an after dinner port wine. There is definitely candy sugar in there but it is not too sweet and the flavours are wonderfully integrated. Top class. Definitely one to sip and savour.

I drank this beer from 11.2 oz bottle that I bought from the Abbey in Rochefort form a 70 year old Monk. The pour is outstanding with light brown head huge that stays forever. When it does fall it does so in chunks and is beautiful. The lace is great and sticks all over the glass. There is yeast all over the glass and adds to stunning look. It smells or dried fruits, alcohol and chocolate. The color is deep amber. The taste is phenomal. It is a balance of chocolate, coffer and alchol. This is the best beer in the world.

Smells and drinks like a wine. Pit fruits (grapes, plums, cherries) and malts dominate the flavor and aroma. Alcohol is well hidden and will sneak up on you by the end of one of these bad boys. Overall I didn’t find it as fantastic as its billing suggests but I’ll gladly drink another anytime. A truly unique brew.
