Bierkrug (235), Idar-Oberstein (in Pakistan), Germany Jun 1, 2009 Updated: Jun 2, 2009330 ml bottle in Belguim, This is not the type of beer I normally like. However that being said it had a nice brown color with a light brown head with perfect lacing. Aroma of brown sugar. Alcohol not well hiden but it grows on you when you drink it. Over all a great beer but not something that I want to drink all of the time. I enjoyed the 8 much better. Beerapprentice (110), Hopatcong, New Jersey, USA May 29, 2009 Pours a cloudy, murky, dark brown colour with a thick, foamy cream coloured head which thins out and leaves a nice lacing. Yeast particles are visibly floating about. Has an aroma of sweet malts, plums, raisins, chocolate, and cherries. Tastes of malts, bread notes, plums, raisins, chocolate and cherries. Unique, hard to describe flavours that linger on the taste buds. Incredibly smooth feel. Vertical Bacon Strips (874), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada May 29, 2009 Best beer I’ve ever had - no question - even better than Old Style Pilsner. Even better now that I can appreicate beer more. Simply amazing. Almost a port. Hard to judge the head considering this most recent tasting was a three way split, but nice brown none the less. Get ready to be punched in the face with the aroma of fruits - plums, apricots, bananas(??)and the most interesting hops ever. Aromas softened during carefully sipping trying to avoid polising it in one shot, but it defenetly got way more complex along the way with the fragrence of bananas holding out strong. Had a zippy bitterness to it with great carbonation. Found a decent collection of sediment at the bottom of the glass. Felt like a thousand hot supple blonde chicks on my tongue. I need a towel. This is the real thing. One of the greatest beers on the planet. Snojerk321 (1914), San Diego, California, USA May 27, 2009 Bottle from BevMo. Pours a deep murky brown with a small beige head. Nose of raisins, plums, black currants and booze. Flavor was also filled with dark fruits, sweet malts and more booze. I was expecting much more from this brewery from its world renown reputation, wasn’t for me. Chrism86 (273), Melbourne, Australia May 26, 2009 Updated: Jul 15, 2009Bottle dated 2014
Pours murky dark brown with a nice beige colored head. Nose has great balance, raisin esters supported by choc/caramel malt with some spicy phenolics as well. Palate is full and creamy. Raisin, choc & caramel malt all have great synergy. Nothing sticks out of place to dominate. Finishes with significant belgian yeast spice. Brilliant balance and mouthfeel despite big abv! Hops and alcohol an afterthought. This sample was quite fresh and in top nick. Easy to see why this is a classic, but to be honest i think i prefer the 8. Regardless, awesome beer! Should probably head back and get a stack of this batch for the cellar! MagnumPI (56), Essex, England May 25, 2009 POOR THIRSTS A PERFECT 10 !
Appealing bottle, and taste and smell do not disappoint. This is a beer that defies its 11.3% strength. Dark creamy stoutlike appearance with brown fizzy head. Complex chewy malty chocolatey. Its got everything. Rated highly for good reason , but pricey !
RJH311 (5), Grand Forks, North Dakota, USA does not count May 24, 2009 Beautiful Beer. Aroma: slightly dry base with LARGE fruity, estery overtones. Flavor is more complex than the female psyche. Deliciously sweet. Would never know this beer is 11.3 abv. slightly hazy pour but otherwise wonderful. First time drinking. instant top 10 list General66 (164), Streator, Illinois, USA May 23, 2009 12 ounce bottle enjoyed the day I received my final grades from college. I was very excited for this brew because it is my first Quad and it is very highly rated. Pours a dark brown/mahogany color with a huge tan bubbly head that lingers through the duration of the beer. I have never seen a beer pour like this before... it was quite impressive. It also had a good amount of carbonation that continuously bubbled from the bottom of my glass. The aroma was very complex and consisted of plum, raisins, grapes, malt, and some booze. The taste was a wonderful mix of dark dried fruit, plum, raisins, malt, with a slight alcohol warming in the background. It had a medium bodied mouth feel and left a nice lingering taste of plum and dark fruit. Overall, an exceptional beer! This is making me interested in trying more quads...
