fezzik20 (8), USA does not count Apr 4, 2009 My mouth was overwhelmed by the many tastes on the first sip. This is an outstanding beer. I have had a ton of St. Bernardus Abt 12 and this is easily as good or better. Very fruity aroma, fruity taste. But not too sweet. Grapes, raisins and malts seem to be the predominant elements. Outstanding. sigma23 (217), , Maine, USA Apr 4, 2009 alright, this here is probably my favorite and also the first craft brew i ever had. this is one BIG mother. once cap is removed this one is off and bubbling almost out the top. pours VERY slow to allow for the head. nose is deep rich red candy fruit, leather, tobacco, and malt sweetness. flavor is very big and elaborate and a pleasure to sip and break down. rich malt lends a very strong back bone to the heavy yeasty deep leather flavors. almost a smokey tobacco acompanies and finishes strong showing its high alcohol. simply an amazing brew. thank you rochefort PatBateman81 (4), Italy does not count Apr 4, 2009 Simply the best beer I’ve ever drunk (although I’ve not tried the Westvleteren 12 yet). It’s like a flavour explosion; the taste is sweet and strong at once, reminds me generally to fruit. And what about the colour... impressive, extremely dark and the contrast with lather is perfect. AndyReynolds (280), Wilder, Kentucky, USA Apr 3, 2009 Bottle. Poured a murcky brown/purplish color with very thin white head. Aroma was is sweet, strong with dark gruits, raisins, cherry, and malts. I detected hints of brown sugar and sweeter spices. The malts really come out when it hits the pallet. The texture is cabonated and creamy. I prefer the 8 just because the alcohol doesn’t stand out as much, but this is still a superior beer. shawnm213 (856), South Bend, Indiana, USA Mar 30, 2009 Updated: Aug 7, 2009This beer has dark fruit, some boozy undertones, and a place in my heart. Big creamy mouthfeel. It’s downfall is some what of a coca cola mouthfeel midway through drinking it. But then again, I don’t know what the fuck I’m talking about. I’m too busy pumpin iron and jammin to bone thugs and harmony tpd975 (95), Riverview, Florida, USA Mar 29, 2009 A: Beautiful! It’s a plum purplish brown sort of color with a wonderful small light fluffy head that leaves behind a beautiful pattern of lace.
S: Believe it or not, I smell bubblegum. It has a wonderful nice sweet aroma that reminds me of a freshly opened back of bubblegum, grape Hubba Bubba perhaps?
T: Like most quads it has a winy taste about it. Reminds me of a wonderful port wine. It has such a nice sweetness about it. I taste dark fruits like raisins, plums, mixed with brown sugar. The malt backbone that this is brewed around is exquisite.
M: Creamy, Milky, Ultra Smooth. Rochefort got this one right.
D: I have to be honest one and I am done, this is not a slight, it is common with most quads that I drink.
wilderthanyou (408), Guelph, Ontario, Canada Mar 28, 2009 WOW!
I was stoked for this beer, I thought I might have over hyped it a bit in my mind. But no, this stuff is the bees knees of quadrupels. The aroma is deep and complex, lots of anise and licorice, with big fruit notes, lots of dried cherry, grape, and plum. The flavour is equally as complex, a light touch of licorice at first which seems to be the throne of that all the other flavours of this beer sit on, plum, raisin, a bit of black currant tartness, brown sugar, ends on a big licorice note. The palate is almost perfect, nice and foamy mouthfeel, my only qualm would be maybe just a touch too much carbonation, other than that, this beer is almost perfect. Very satisfying. hirigalzkar (549), Stockholm, Sweden Mar 27, 2009 Bottle. Look.Red brown, off white head. Smell: Sweet. Citrus, fruity, sugar, spicy. Surprisingly fresh. Taste: Vinous. Spicy, choclaty. Peppery aftertaste. Overall: Shy but complex. Smooth.
