COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The top product from the Rochefort Trappist brewery. Dark color, full and very impressive taste. Strong plum, raisin, and black currant palate, with ascending notes of vinousness and other complexities.

330mL bottle. Finally getting around to rating this one... Pours a dark brown; creamy tan head with great retention and lacing. Generous aroma: dried fruits and brown sugar; smells slightly hot. Full, complex mouthfeel: plenty of yeast and esters and dried-fruit; hints of maple syrup, spice and toffee - almost chewy; perfect level of carbonation (lively without being unwieldy); hides its alcohol well. Long, dry finish, showing yeast and spice. Excellent.

UPDATED: APR 8, 2008 Bottle. Nice, thick head and dense black color which light cannot penetrate. Nose of dark chocolate malt with a hint of bubble gum offers a tease of whatís to come. Dried fig on the sweet end, powerful malt on the dry end. Rewardingly bitter finish tangled up with alcohol and faint apples.

UPDATED: DEC 7, 2012 This is my desert island brew -- the one I would choose if limited to just one. Read the other ratings for all the complex details on palate, aroma, etc.. If youíve never tasted this, do yourself a favor and do so. Donít over-chill -- even 55 or so F works just fine. Hearty also, especially if you are the one chilled on a raw, wet day. Bliss in a bottle.

UPDATED: AUG 23, 2010 Pour is dark reddish brown, with a nice off-white head. Very good dark fruit, spice, raisin, sweet malt and a hint of caramel. Sweet flavor of plums, dark fruit, raisins, strong spice, sugar, caramel, and yeast. Thick mouthfeel, with a little bit of alcohol. Very complex, damn good ale. One of the best out there.

Bottle dont know the age but itís good till 2011. Pours a copper, brown, muddy beer. Taste is very carbonated. Smells like a sweet mix of raisons, dark rum, sweet apples, sour apples, and grapes. Taste is of all those combined, and topped off with wood, and a fine baked marshmellow cherry devil cake. Lacing on this beer didnt stick as well as i expected. NO malt a bit of hops and a lot of flavor i wish i could describe. I will return with an aged version of this masterpiece.
