vtafro (452), , New Jersey, USA Jan 6, 2009 the best of the imported belgian quads, very dark pour, i like this beer about as much as their eight due to the higher alcohol content but the eight has a better flavor. plaidtopia (8), , Washington, USA does not count Jan 5, 2009 Rotten aroma that smells like a stuffy airplane and nearly turns me off, but draws naturally from the taste, which makes up for it. Sweet (perhaps too much so), fruity (grape and peach), fairly smooth and buttery. Falls off the palate quickly. Beautifully dark. and opage. Small head. joeyplush (328), Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 30, 2008 Number 100! Pours a caramel brown color with a medium tan head. Not much lacing, probably due to the high alcohol content. Aroma of cinnamon, sweet malt, also detected some fruit aromas (apple/apple cider), and early in the pour, also detected some light hints of pine hops and even a very light blue cheese scent when the beer is swirled in the glass. Flavor has sweet malt and some spices (cinnamon, nutmeg) and the alcohol is also very evident. Finish has good carbonation, and is slightly oily. A very complex and enjoyable beer for my 100th rating. On to the next 100! Rciesla (3500), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA Dec 30, 2008 Updated: Jan 14, 2009Bottle. Pours a mahogany body with a tan sediment head. Fruity esters, plum, raisin, spices, currants, and caramel malts. There is so much complexity in this beer you could sample it 10 times and come up with 10 different ratings. Great but i still prefer rochefort 8. 4.0
2001 vintage. Sweet maple, alcohol latent fruits, plum, raisins. Light minerals and lightly oxidized moth flavors. Big fruity chewy creamy body with a dry finish. 3.8. JK54B (913), Helsinki, Finland Dec 27, 2008 Pale brown head. Dark reddish brown colour. Malty and syropy nose. Strong alcohol and malty taste with some medicinelike taste. Also some syrup in the taste. soyorganic (217), Denver, Colorado, USA Dec 22, 2008 Bottle, pours very dark brown with a huge off white and tan head. The aroma consists of hop, coffee and caramel malts.
The initial taste is a wonderfully rich slightly sweet vinous prune, plum and almost cherry taste. Then followed by a dry malt smokey flavor that leads to a savory smokey aftertaste coupled with the initial sweet vinous taste. This is all happening while the alcohol warms your stomach. This beer is amazing, I do not know how a beer could get much better than this. FlssmrBrewAlum (1053), Lisle, Illinois, USA Dec 22, 2008 Bottle from Wilmer Liquors (New Lenox, IL). taken from the fridge after a snowy commute. Pours an opaque dark brown, dark leathery hue with a moderate light brownish head. Aromas are belgian candy sugar, brown sugar, light belgian yeast, vanilla, caramel, nice fresh cake and bakery aromas. Initial taste takes on a touch of bitterness up front followed by nice belgian yeast with fainy spciness, vanilla, candy sugar, some darker dried fruit sweetness, and touches of caramel. Creamy sweetness with a very complex flavor profile. Quality mouthfeel and body. finishes very nicely. Flavor is great. Cheers! rds (224), USA Dec 22, 2008 A strong opaque dark brown brew with a persistent one finger tan head, clear plum notes in the aroma and palate. Excellent layered flavors - sweet malt, molasses, raisins, and the high ABV can be tasted but on the whole a super quad.
