The top product from the Rochefort Trappist brewery. Dark color, full and very impressive taste. Strong plum, raisin, and black currant palate, with ascending notes of vinousness and other complexities.

bottle @ home. Aged 5 years. Pours a brown liquid with a beige, medium head that quite quickly dissipated. Perfect vinous and moderate sweet aroma with lots of dark fruits (raisins, dates, some prunes), brown sugar, dark syrup, coffee, biscuits and some herbs. Sweet vinous taste. Big bodied with medium duration and smooth texture. Finishes dry with balanced bitterness. Prunes, dates, red fruits, dark sugar, coffee, wood, ash, sweet caramel, some milk chocolate, roasted malt and warming alcohol.

From bottle. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of sweet plums, raisins, nuts, spices, cereal. Taste is super sweet, alcohol, bit of wood, nuts, caramel. Not my thing, but I get why people enjoy this.

Pours a deep opaque chocolate brown. Long lasting head. The first sip is rich. The high alcohol content is immediately evident and continues to be evident with every sip. The ale itself is smooth and full-bodied. The finish is understated. Overall, worthy of its reputation.
