4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 TheGB (422) - Charlottesville, Virginia, USA - MAY 3, 2013
Pours dark brown with a full head. Aroma is fabulous with tons of dates, stone fruit, chocolate, black cherries and malt. The taste is viscous with more dates, rum cake. A bit sweet, but not excessive. Palate is surprisingly acidic for such a strong beer.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Jamesthebrit (47) - Greenville, South Carolina, USA - MAY 3, 2013
A: Pours a pretty sludgy brown. A gentle pour yields a creamy light tan head. It’s a little light but pretty nice.
S: A most fruity note tinges my nostrils. Plum, raisin. Acidic boozy note but it is well complimented.
T: This is a super complex taste. Very fruity at first. Super sweet (probably from the alcohol which is well masked but present) finish is malty with fruit notes lingering on the palate. The problem though with this one is it’s too sweet.
P: A little alcohol tinge. Good flavors. Carbonation is a little aggressive.
Overall a pretty good beer and probably the best belgian style, but maybe not as great as people think. There are some great flavor notes, and some great fruit. Some nice malt. But just too sweet. The sweetness nails you on the first sip.
I grabbed a couple bottles and the other one is in the cellar. Maybe I’ll give it another go in a couple years and we’ll see then.
4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 OKplus (355) - Oklahoma, USA - APR 30, 2013
A - Pours a deep murky brown with a 1.5 finger of tan head that slowly sinks
S - Raisins, plums, cherries, figs, caramelized toffee, spicy bread dough, hints of chocolate and yeasty banana.
T - Toasty chocolate covered in toffee, rum soaked figs, vanilla bean, clove, pepper, hints of smoke and tobacco. The finish has a warm dry bite that wraps everything up.
M - Like drinking velvet, perfect carbonation.
You could probably drink this 20 times and pick out something new and different everytime. This beer gets a lot of hype but truly lives up to it. Extremely complex. Superb.

5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20 spacemonster (19) - Igo, California, USA - APR 30, 2013
This is just an incredible beer. Someone said they wouldn’t recommend this for a newbie? My take is quite the opposite. Why not turn the new kids onto the deeply groovy stuff right off the bat? That’s my take. Old School BUD drinkers won’t budge no matter what so? Damn the torpedos!
4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 rangerred (660) - Johnson City, Tennessee, USA - APR 29, 2013
330ml bottle into a goblet.
Pours an opaque dark ruby, almost black, with a light tan one finger head. Really decent head retention and lacing throughout.
The aroma is full of dark fruits such as plums, raisins, dates, and figs. Is quite vinous with a very red wine-like aroma. Some notes of sherry and cranberry. Quite nice.
The flavor provides even more depth than the aroma. Plums and grapes along with sherry and a hint of vanilla. More dark fruit washes over the palate with some oak and plums. Bitterness is on the moderate side with much of the perceived bitterness provided by the alcohol. It is never harsh but is definitely noticeable providing a nice, pleasing warmth in the chest and throat.
Overall, an amazing Quad and one of the best Trappist beers out there. So many complexities in the aroma and taste it is a brew that every true beer fan should experience.

Söt, fruktig, alkoholen slår tydligt igenom. Tänk jul mumma! I sin klass strålande, men inte riktigt min påse.
