Bottle at Sandbar, Manchester. Dark brown with hint of red. Very large, creamy near-white head that lasts the whole beer through. Vinous aroma is rich fruit, dried fig and raisin, plum and date with a spicy undertone. The fruits carry over into the flavour and are joined by a note of muscovado/molasses. Slight medicinal taste (in a good way) with hints of pepper/spice. Incredibly smooth and rich on the palate. Miraculously drinkable for such a high ABV. One of the best of the best.

330ml Glass at Marienbad /Chaucers that my lovely wife took me to for a beer or two and lunch The aroma is sweet and fruity sort of like prunes and honey pours a pale chocolaty brown with little to no head or lacing with a lot of floaties not the most attractive of beers for sure But the taste is exceptional nice fruity taste with the high ABV well masked nice and smooth and creamy on the palate

Darker brown coloured beer with small off-white head. Malty fruity aroma. Full sparkling palate. Finish is sweet and herby. Good beer.

The more elusive of the Rochefort brews. Pours a deep dark purple color along the side of my snifter. After sitting the glass straight up, an angled line of foam stays behind. With a tad left, I swirl the bottle and pour the remains into the center of the glass. This leaves an egg shape foam mound 1/4" high that settles after the intense bubbles finish coming up from the bottom. Smells of the darkest of dark fruit, plum, raisin, grapes, blackberry. There is also a sugary alcoholic smell of brown sugar and some molasses. Definately molasses and with some burnt/very smokey caramel. Lots of plum and raisin. A very sweet brew indeed. Nice light carbonation with a smoothness I’ve never felt in a quad. mmm...This is a great beer and I feel like it has been a pleasure letting the alcohol sneak up on me.

Dark brown color with medium tan head. Aroma of malt, nuts and some berries. Full. smooth, flavor with enormous complexity. Grows even more complex and full-flavored with 3-5 years of consistent storage. Approaches Westvleteren 12 in terms of flavor and complexity. A true classic.

Looked for this for four years....FINALLY found it at Jax in Cumming Georgia...THANK YOU. Believe it or not, I was slightly disappointed as this was rated a perfect beer. Doesn’t measure up to Westie 12 or St. Bernardus 12, but not far behind...would NOT turn down one if offered.

From bottle. Nectar of the gods! Pours dark brown color with short tan head with long lasting lacing. Aromas of malts, dried dark fruit. Tastes is sweet dark fruit, nuts, caramel with a long tangy finish. Alcohol is compeltely hidden. Excellent as usual.

11/8/08 notes: Always exciting when you get to try something as highly touted as this. Pours brown with floating yeast and a large, pearly head. Rich aroma of bread, yeast, caramel malt, brown sugar, and grains. Perhaps some dark fruit in there as well, such as raisins. Full-bodied flavor with rich nuttiness, sweet fruit, and intense bread/yeast. Mid-palate is very mellow, with a vinous sweetness. Finish features a lingering sweetness that is surprisingly fruity, with wood, alcohol, and malt. Beautiful blend.
