The top product from the Rochefort Trappist brewery. Dark color, full and very impressive taste. Strong plum, raisin, and black currant palate, with ascending notes of vinousness and other complexities.

At home, 2015 bottle (33cl). Direct comparison tasting with Westvleteren 12. Pour: dark, dunkel red, purplish, clear. Medium carb, good foam. Nose: dried fruits, sweet, dades&raisins, brown sugar / molasses, malts. Taste: first - dried fruits, dry minerals, alcohol is certainly present; mid - slight bitterness, malts; after - sirup and molasses, very pleasant. Mouthfeel: Sirupy thick consistency, aggressive carbonation and bitterness. Verdict: Very pleasant, sweet and sirupy. The alcohol is a bit too dominant to my taste.

Pours deep ruby-brown with a big frothy tan head, hardly any lacing. Nose of toast, maple syrup, caramel, raisins, rum, spice, yeast, candied zest, panettone. Taste is medium to high sweetness backed up just by high carbonation (hardly any bitterness). Medium body, rather thin for the ABV, high alco warmth on finish. Excellent but overrated (IMHO some De Struise or Straffe Hendrik quads are way better).

Bottle. Pours dark hazy brown with tan head. Aroma is complex and fruity with dried fruits like dates, figs, raisins, liquorice, caramel, dark and roasted malts yet sweet. Taste is even more complex with malt, cane sugar, dried fruits, date, fig, raisin, apricot, liquorice, caramel and molasses. Finish is surprisingly dry and carbonation lively and hides alcohol well. A wonder!

UPDATED: AUG 11, 2016 Impressive look with heavy foam and dark colour. Intense flavours. Caramel, liquorice, banana, raisins, salt, coffee. Nice carbonisation. Not much smell. Could have been a little less sweet, otherwise great stuff.

Gushing. Brown, nice off white head. Aroma: dark fruits, toffee, raisins, some yast notes. Heavy sweetness, quite full body. Flavour: raisins, malts, caramel, subtle dark malts, but most of all alcohol.

Served in a tulip from a 330ml bottle. Pours slightly hazy very dark chestnut colour with a thick light beige head, plenty of lacing in the glass. Aroma is winey, dark fruits, a hint of molasses and clear alcohol. Taste is mainly dark fruits and winey, resembles a port at the finish - warming, fruity and yet again, very alcoholic. Medium body with medium carbonation and clear alcoholic aftertaste. Observing the comments I’ve expected it to be something completely out of this world but am quite disappointed... The strength of the beer is clearly present from start to finish in a form of a very detectable alcohol - in the aroma, the taste and the aftertaste. I bet if this kind of beer was produced by anybody else but Trappists, it would’ve been slaughtered for being too heavily laced with alcohol...

Espuma beige-marrón, color chococalte oscuro casi negro y opaco que no deja pasar la luz, aroma dulce en nariz, sabor potente donde a pesar de los 11 grados se disfruta y se aprecian las notas dulces y el regusto sabroso y permanente.
