COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The top product from the Rochefort Trappist brewery. Dark color, full and very impressive taste. Strong plum, raisin, and black currant palate, with ascending notes of vinousness and other complexities.

Bottle thanks to mcbackus...vintage 2006. Pours a dark, reddish brown color with tan head. Sweet fruity, dark fruits - raisins, plums, grapes, with hints of caramel malt in the aroma. More dark fruit flavor, some light Aramark malt notes, a lot of booze but smooth and well balanced, not like 11%+ brew. Nice.

UPDATED: JUL 19, 2014 Dark sugar nose, not obnoxious like cheaper quads. Some serious sediment. Brown pour. Persistent bubbles. Touch of cherry, phenolic, with a hint of hop. Toffee? It ends up being a clean beer that doesn’t stick to your mouth. However, it is a big warming beer that you may not notice the alcohol, but you can’t really drink more than one of these in a sitting.

Poured into my LaTrappe goblet for this special occasion. Pours a dark mahagony color with average foamy head. Appears nicely carbonated, so much so that it produces a nice little foamy mound in the center of a wispy foam ring around the glass. I did happen to notice that while pouring this beer, it appears to have a rather large amount of yeast sediment. Smells dark and menacing with a rich complex malt bill followed by fruit and alcohol. Sweet tasting malts, stewed plums and dates. Big alcohol taste that hit me hard. I also can taste a nice subtle bread or grain aspect to the taste. Mouthfeel lighter then I would expect. I noticed while I sampled this great beer that my tongue and lips seem to be coated with a sweet tastiness similar to powered malt when brewing a beer, I cant’t explain it. This is a powerful beer and I had a hard time just finishing the bottle. One is plenty for me since I am not a big fan of hangovers. None the less its a good tasting beer that shows different nuances as it warms.

Dark thick brown with vanilla head. Sweet boozy aroma. Medium body with dry palate up front. Very complex flavors throughout.

Pretty used to Rochefort, although this is a class beer. Cloudy dark-brown colour, fine persistant creamy head with a nice lacing, deeply complex aroma of plums, banana(!!!), nougat, nuts, full-bodied, oily with a strong bitterness, the finish is explosive showing malt, warming alcohol and licorice. Doesn’t age that well like the Westvleteren or Westmalle Dubbel. Wonder why?
