The top product from the Rochefort Trappist brewery. Dark color, full and very impressive taste. Strong plum, raisin, and black currant palate, with ascending notes of vinousness and other complexities.

Very smooth, slightly sweet malty taste fading to bitter with just a hint of the alcohol. A very good brew.

Old bottle (3 ish years, I think). Very dark brown with nice tan head that dissipated. Smells like good dark bread, dark fruits, and a hint of sour. Smooth for such a high ABV. Nicely balanced. I see why people like this. (and I like it too.)

Vertical tasting. Old bottle (4 years, 4 month old) Nose is sweet bread, dark fruit, brown sugar. Taste has lots of fruity esters, sweet chestnuts and figs. Soft mouthfeel. Dark and cloudy in appearance, minimal head, but it sticks around. Newer bottle (1 year, 10 months old) is obviously similar but differs as such: Nose is less intense, lighter and there is some citrus and peppery notes and less bread in the smell and taste. More carbonation and head. And a lighter, almost reddish hue. This monster holds up really nice, but I prefer the fresher liquid.

UPDATED: JUL 9, 2015 Fantastisk øl, Lækker blød skum, flot mørk farve og masser af duft og smag, frugt og vinagtig. One of my favourites at the moment

Bottle- pours dark brown with an off white head. Plum, raisin, chocolate and sweet malts. Taste is sweet up front then a slow burn into a dry bittersweet finish. Well balanced palate. Would never know its 11.3%.

Pours a dark brown with a fizzy off white head. Nose is dark chocolate, raisin, plum, currants, dark fruit. Flavor is smooth and rich. Lots of dark fruit, raisin, prunes, plums, toffee, cloves. Thick, viscous mouthfeel with a heavy body. Rich and warming, moderate carbonation. Silky and delicious. Gorgeous mix of dark fruit flavors and rich toffee and caramel.

Best brew while in Brussels, had on tap and from bottle. Great yeasty nose, lasting head retention, smooth and fresh on the palate.

Bottle from McHughs. Pours dark red brown with foam tan head. Aroma is dough, raspberry, chocolate, cherry, walnut, wood, earth, rum, ripe banana. So much going on. Flavour is sweet banana, bread, nuts, dry wood with slight alcohol wood finish. Full body with medium Carbonation. Really great beer.
