foodtraveller (26), Belgium Jul 1, 2008 Dark with a very nice foam. Aroma is with raisin, malt and banana. Taste follows the nose adding a very long aftertaste, some sweetness and carbonation, maybe some moka flavor. Different from other trappist as in sweeter and less bitter, but stunningly good. Warning ... the alcohol bites afterwards. johntreeter (121), Greenwood, Indiana, USA Jun 29, 2008 11.2 bottle that pours a warm brown with a one finger lasting light tan head, some particulate, and nice lacing. Aroma is of dark fruit and some alcohol. Flavor is rich in a not too sweet malt character and an alcohol sting that I don’t mind at all. Med body with lively carbonation and chewy texture. A very good big beer that does not overwelm you and has the character and complexity that I will enjoy again. DUNGA (10), Belgium Jun 29, 2008 Fresh bottle 2008: I knew this wouldn’t be ready but I just really needed a beer with my movie. Even though the complexity wasn’t there, I really enjoyed the textures and smoothness of this beer, dark fruits, yeast and maltiness are obvious in these flavors... Great tan head and deep color, with brown color right under the head. Really enjoyed it. Might re-rate with a vintage bottle. kwoeltje (1313), Manchester, Missouri, USA Jun 28, 2008 (bottle) Deep black/brown with small tan head. Warm aroma of dark fruits. Info: 330ml bottle 1/3-2006, 86/300 thechandler (268), Morgantown, West Virginia, USA Jun 26, 2008 Updated: Sep 20, 2009Pours a dark, opaque brown. Aroma is woody and fruity. Flavor is complex...lots of stuff all over the place. Bold. Like a dark rum or cognac. Notes of chocolate and raisins at the forefront. I also get hints of cane juice, perhaps even pineapple. Roasty, rich. Maybe a little toasted marshmallow flavor. One this is for sure that this is very deep and mature. Bold. A sippers beer. gary07734 (390), Tyne & Wear, England Jun 26, 2008 Updated: Jan 16, 20090.33l bottle into trappist glass.
Pour deep muddy brown/black with a lasting foamy cream/bown head. Smell is strong alcohol, wine and raisens. Drink is slightly viscous and medium fizz. Taste is delicous prunes and raisens with liqorice, sweet, banana flavours, noticeable but not overpowering alcohol finish.
A truly excellent slow drinking beer.
