Bananamaniac (35), Kristinehamn, Sweden Jun 25, 2008 One of the very best Trappistes I’ve tried so far. Very well-balanced considering the high ABV. A nice taste of raisins, caramell, green bananas, portwine, toffee, roasted malts. A "must-try-beer". airforce1 (61), Atascosa, Texas, USA Jun 25, 2008 Dark and Rich beer with a big, boozt aroma. Plummy richness with a slight medicianl finish. I prefer this one over Westy 12 for sure. Crispy and smooth at the same time. Gypsy19 (602), California, USA Jun 23, 2008 An extremely complex Quadrupel that has too many flavors to list. And too many features. Was expecting something a little smoother; The booze in this one is quite apparent, unlike Bernardus, which I believe to be slightly better for that reason alone. Still excellent, and highly recommended. I wish I could have this all the time but alas, at $7+ per 11 1/5 ounce bottle, I’d be bankrupt in no time. A treat. Thanks, Rochefort. MaltDawg (778), Richmond, Virginia, USA Jun 23, 2008 11.2 oz botle. Cloudy dark amber with medium white head that fell rapidly. Beautiful lacing on side of glass. Nose of roasted malts raisins and plums with touch of yeasty character and a bit of alchohol. Chewy mouthfeel with tongue tickling high carbonation.Flavor is roast malts with dark fruits and candi sugar sweetness. Moderate bitterness supports sweetness with some nice alchohol warming in the finish. MrBeerFanatic (344), jamestown, New York, USA Jun 23, 2008 Got one of these from the Internet. Pours deep dark brown with a fizzy quickly vanishing off white head. Almost sounded like I was pouring soda in a mug. Has a beautiful aroma of dark fruits like cherry, plum, currant, and raisins. The flavor here is pretty complex. It starts out sweet and a little cake/fig with the tastes of dark fruits like hints of cherry, raisin, and plum then a little alcohol can be noticed but not to overwhelming. The mouth feel is resiny and it kinda gets fizzy/bubbly. Its rich, smooth and well balanced. Well done brew but expected a more extraordinary flavor, but still very very tasty. Then again, maybe I’m just not the biggest fan of fruit based brews. basewars (144), Albany, New York, USA Jun 23, 2008 I had been waiting to try this and it was worth it. Smells of raisins, yeast and malt. Tastes of caramel and fruit, very much like port. Very complex, and absolutely excellent. DrFunk (80), Sorumsand, Norway Jun 22, 2008 33cl bottle @ monopoly outlet in sweden. WOW! Dark brown with good head. Amazing nose and everlasting fruity/ wineous taste. Why are the bottles so small? VitaminR (421), Colorado, USA Jun 21, 2008 Deep raisiney molasses nose. Deep brown color with some haze when the light hits it, large head with great lacing. Huge rummy raisin sweetness, some chocolate liquor as well, alcohol is huge, some bitterness. Tight carbonation, sour boozy finish. Least favorite of all the Trappist beers, the alcohol really overpowers most of the beer’s characteristics. Will try again if given the opportunity, but it seems overrated.
