COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The top product from the Rochefort Trappist brewery. Dark color, full and very impressive taste. Strong plum, raisin, and black currant palate, with ascending notes of vinousness and other complexities.

UPDATED: APR 1, 2014 Pours a dark brown with thick light brown head and some sediment. Has a strong yeast aroma with some wheat and hard alcohol. A very hard dark alcohol flavor with heavy yeast, wheat, dark sweet fruits (prunes) and finishes with malts and whiskey/rum.

This is an almost perfect trappist to me. Very rich palate and a complex taste. A strong beer, but youre not drinking an alcohol bomb.

Heerlijke trappist in mijn ogen de lekkerste belgische trappist. Vol van smaak en heerlijk afdronk

Bottle. Pours hazy dark with a large tan head. Medium carbonation. Aroma of bread, dark fruit, raisins, custard, herbs, spices. Taste is warming (alcohol), brown sugar and honey sweetness, dark fruit and spices. Lots going on. Smooth mouthfeel, long lingering taste. Perhaps a bit too much alcohol.

Complex with aromas of dry fruits (dry plums), roast, caramel, spice (especially nutmeg), licorice and citrus (it reminded me of citrus mirtyfolia, an orange-like fruit widely used for chinotto soft drink). Sweet at first, with over medium body. Interesting, but I couldnt appreciate this beer style: even though it mellowed while in the glass, for me the alcohol was just too strong (over 11%) and I found the beer very unbalanced. Im used to drinking wine (a lot), but the alcohol here really stands out and lingers for a while in the back of the mouth, giving a bitter sensation. It got a little better with time, but maybe its just not my style.
