crowderm (275), Recklinghausen, Germany May 15, 2008 Pours a dark nut brown with no head. Aroma is pretty subtle - grapes, cherries, a hint of sharp spice. The flavor is big, and sweet - figs, plums, raisins, brown sugar. The mouthfeel is full yet dry and sharp, very nice, surprisingly refreshing. This is a good beer, no doubt about it, but I’m a little disappointed. I’ve got to say that I really prefer the Bernardus 12. Todeon (314), Sweden May 15, 2008 Bottle. Really big head that dissapears quikly. Aroma cis sweet grapes, raisins and port wine mixed with some fruits. Flavor is really sweet with lots of fruity notes with a burning alcohol finish. CaptBier (301), Birmingham, Alabama, USA May 15, 2008 Bottle. A very beautiful beer with a nut brown color which turn dark brown if you pour the sediment. It has hints of fruit in the aroma and a very good head. It is a very strong tasting beer with hints of fruit but also alcohol. trevor211 (499), Seattle, Washington, USA May 14, 2008 Wow. Pours a stunning dark ruby with a good, thick, off-white head. Aroma is sweet grapes, black cherries, port wine, raisins, figs and other dark fruits, melded perfectly with Belgian yeast and malts. Flavor is just incredible - takes all the notes from the aroma and adds roasty, slightly smoky malts, a bit of bourbon, and brings out the Belgian yeast a bit more. The mouthfeel is perfect - thick, full, but dry and not too heavy. It leaves you salivating, wanting the next sip. The carbonation isn’t overbearing. This is utterly fantastic - I will always want more of this beer. As of the tasting, this is my new favorite overall, beating out St. Bernardus’ Abt. 12. Just delicious. MatSciGuy (627), Rosemount, Minnesota, USA May 11, 2008 Updated: Oct 30, 2008[Bottle] Pours a brown that turned ruby red when held up to the light. Moderate sized, quickly diminishing off white head. Aroma is decent, with lots of raisins, plums, prunes, and other dark fruits. Mouthfeel is quite light, but incredibly full. Flavor is lots of dark fruits, some alcohol burn, the perfect amount of spices, and vinous notes. The alcohol seems to enhance the flavors rather than detract from them. Finishes long with lots of alcohol and residual sweetness. Awesome, awesome beer. puggy211 (576), cordova, Tennessee, USA May 11, 2008 This is a totally solid beer. Smells sweet, and tastes the same. Has a light head that compliments the color. I detect some very interesting tastes in this one. There is definently some taste of alcohol, but the 11.3 % kind of sneaks up on you. Yay beer! *after drinking the beer after it had warmed up....the alcohol was much more detectable. tlind2 (560), Helsinki, Finland May 11, 2008 330 ml bottle. Deep dark brown color, slightly lighter head. Sweet roasted malts in the aroma. Very full mouthfeel, warming taste of juicy malts and chocolate with a smooth finish. Superb balance, great beer. markwise (1132), 15 Minutes from Kuhnhenn in, Florida, USA May 10, 2008 This is an incredible beer. It is worth the price and deserves the hype. It has a great dark fruit aroma, and it smells like sugar plums and cherries (dark fruit with lots of sweet sugar). It is very rich in flavor, and every time I drink one I taste something a bit different. It is phenomenal.
