COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The top product from the Rochefort Trappist brewery. Dark color, full and very impressive taste. Strong plum, raisin, and black currant palate, with ascending notes of vinousness and other complexities.

Reviewed 9-9-10. Sometimes it’s tough to review a legendary beer after you have not had it in awhile. Questions like: Tastes change over time, and what if I don’t like it? are very commonplace - at least in my mind. Anyway, I picked this up over at the Arlington Whole Foods today because...it was there. I poured this into a sniffer. Ap: Dark brown, muddy water pour, that adds up to this beautiful fully cabonated (almost champagne-like), dark brew that has the foamiest head I’ve seen in a long time - unfiltered obviously. Ar: VERY subdued, but equally pleasant. I was expecting this big flood of dark fruit to start beating me up (like Raison d’Etre), but much to my amazement - no. Sure, I’m getting the fruit, but I smell chocolate. T: Sweet licorice right off the bat, then dates. VERY sweet. I actually think age will mellow this out. Not many fancy spices at all - just good old fashioned malts and sugars. Earthy and then some! P: Creamy as hell, with the intense sweetness being part of the brew’s charm. Lots of foamy lacing on the glass. O: 11.2 fl. oz. was plenty. Because the stuff has an ABV of 11.3, I’m feeling pretty good!

330ml bottle. Aroma is a little alcoholic. Dark brown color, with off white head that liners well. Malty flavor, plum flavor, alcohol. Full bodied, but appropriate. Overall, a delicious Trappist beer!

Aroma is a strong fruity, malty, caramel. Color is a cloudy red brown with lots of floaties. Head is tan and frothy. It has a light sweet taste. A creamy full body with soft carbonation.

Pours a dark reddish brown color with a foamy head. Beautiful beer. Subtle dark fruit, raisin and malt aroma. Delicious smooth flavor. A warming beer with the higher alcohol, but it’s practically non existent in the taste. Couldn’t get enough of this stuff. Definitely going to track more down. Incredible.

Ottimo aroma, corposa, alcolica quanto basta. Una gioia per il palato. La migliore birra che ho bevuto.

Nez: toffee, chocolat, pruneaux Bouche: sucre, caramel, blé, chocolat, alcool. C’est bon mais sa réputation est à mon sens très surfaite!

Dark beer with a tall head. Complex and spicy taste with a persistent aftertaste. Warming alcohol which does not compromise the taste.

BBE 1/2018 bottle. Pours clear with bits of yeast sediment. Brown head and reddish brown color. Nose has malts, licorice, raisins and hints of pure alcohol. Mouth is a balanced sweetness with just a little bit of bitterness and a complex thick texture. Finish is long and smooth. Overall a very kick-ass beer after a little under 2 years of maturing. I’m glad I have more of these in the cellar.
