4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
330ml brown bottle with a plain traditional label design, poured into a beautiful Trappistes Rochefort Trappist goblet. Appearance is opaque dark sienna colored with a medium sized tan head with good retention. Aroma of black currants, dates, dried figs and pears. Flavours of black currants, dates, dried figs, prunes, raisins, caramel, butterscotch, roasted malts and spices. Taste is light sweet and medium bitter. Palate is full bodied, creamy texture and average carbonation. A world class beer, complex well balanced flavours, despite 11.3% ABV the alcohol is not noticeable. A lot of yeast sediment in the bottle that I like to pour all in from the beginning with this particular beer, as I think it enhanced the flavour. Great also paired with cheese, chocolate and grilled meat dishes.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
This pours murky and brown with a fat head of khaki creamy foam. A nose of luscious caramel, touch of booze and a bit of raisin and fig. A bit of sweet chocolate on the nose and soft peat. The taste is generous with malt sweetness. Luscious caramel, molasses, raisin, fig and and earthiness that isn’t any dark malt flavor like coffee or chocolate. it;s soft. Mouthfeel is full but drinks lightly with plenty of carbonation to tickle. A mysterious drying. At some point in the beer the palate has become dry and you are left to wonder why. Sweetness from alcohol and a bit of alcohol dryness in the finish.

Herbal aroma, strong ale notes. Dark Brown color with a good and tasty foam. Light to medium body, raisin and fruit sweet flavors combine with the alcoholic beer. Medium end make me want 2 more bottles

Amazing should be all this beer needs for a review, if you like belgian beers then just get around this beer! Ignore the alc%, you won notice it as the brewer has hidden it behind all the flavour in this beer.

Bottle. So this is what the good stuff tastes like. Well, I suppose so... Either I got an old bottle or I don’t have a sophisticated enough palate. Pours hazy brown-lots of sediment at the bottom-with a creamy head that diminishes quickly to a thin ring that leaves no lacing. Aroma of bread and caramel. Medium to heavy sweet and lightly bitter. Average to soft carbonation, light body, oily texture and a lightly bitter and sticky sweet finish.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy dark brown. A truly delicious and complex beer. Sweet fruit and nutty flavors. The alcohol adds a nice warming effect. Worthy of the high rating.
