The top product from the Rochefort Trappist brewery. Dark color, full and very impressive taste. Strong plum, raisin, and black currant palate, with ascending notes of vinousness and other complexities.

Was not disapointed in this World class trappist ale. A little pricey was the only drawback ( $14 a bottle at WOB in Tampa). Otherwise its all GOOD!

Pours dark brown with medium beige head. Aroma is classical - caramel, raisins, grapes, sourness, cinnamon, cardamom, light leaves, balanced with wine barrels. Taste is very well balanced with beer bitterness, wine sourness and berries sweetness. Oak barrels, caramel, cinnamon, grapes and raisins, soft and silky apple pie with caramel cream. Wonderful beer!

Dark, strong alcohol but also creamy, rich, all complexed with sweetness. One of the best trappist beer.

Taste: caramel, bread, herbs, alcohol. Taste: heavy cloying sweetness, lightly bitter, lightly sour. Palate: full body, creamy.

330ml bottle pours dark brown with generous foamy head. Caramel malt, bready aroma with a hint of fruit. Tastes of caramel, brown sugar, yeast, dried fruit and cream liquor. Plenty of bubbles, dried fruit undertones and strong alcohol give this beer a subtle wine-like finish. Although this is a rich, sweet and complex beer, the long-lasting carbonation keeps it fresh all the way through. Great for cooler weather, but I will be buying a few in summer as well.

Great experience, Slightly bitter chocolate, dark fruit and sweet banana flavours. A strong sweetness, but not too much, great balance in mouth. Smooth, Probably one of my favourite beers of all time, never to share!

From memory. 330ml bottle. Pours brown. This wasnt what I was expecting as I had never tried a dark Belgian beer, and nothing so strong. Medium carbonation. Toffee, liqorish, Dandelion ’n’ Burdock, chocolate, dark fruit and sweet banana flavours. A strong sweetness, yet it never gets cloying. Smooth, thick mouth feel. This feels like a dessert more than a beer. Probably one of my favourite beers of all time and now i wished i had sipped it on my own rather than sharing it out.

I have to make a stipulation on this review: I put this in the fridge to chill and left it too long so I may have missed some of the aroma and flavour. That being said, this was a full flavoured, delicious beer. It pours a very dark brown with a small bubbly head. There’s pretty heavy carbonation that maintains that head. I got a bready aroma, a little malt, a little yeast. Taste is dry but slightly sweet, like a wine. Notes of toffee, dark chocolate, alcohol, and there is definitely a dry, tannic red wine presence. Also, a slight earthy hop bite on the finish. The mouthfeel is oily but light. This is a VERY complex and unusual beer. Delicious, but at 11%abv, one was enough.

Color is deep brown with a tint of red. Aroma is full of chocolate. Taste has licquorice, oil, salty toffee. The sweet elements keep developing in the aftertaste. Very complex and sophisticated.

Bottle from the Good Spirits Co Wine & Beer. Pours a dark dark brown, with a generous frothy pale coffee coloured head. Nose is bananas, bananas, bananas. Then there’s Belgian style yeasts, bread, and maybe a little chocolate. Taste is rich and malty and sweet, with again a little chocolate. The high ABV is not at all noticeable. Palate is silky smooth, slightly sticky. The carbonation is quite high, but I guess that’s a Belgian thing.

The following Dutch proverb is made for this beer: ’like an angel peeing on your tongue’. Aromas and taste: Dried fruits, coffee, bread. Sweetness and bitterness perfecty in balance. It’s high in alcohol but it’s not boozy whatsoever. In fact the alcohol contributes to the great taste. The best quad in town! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
