The top product from the Rochefort Trappist brewery. Dark color, full and very impressive taste. Strong plum, raisin, and black currant palate, with ascending notes of vinousness and other complexities.

UPDATED: OCT 21, 2007 Bottle. Deep aroma of dark fruits, but the black currant is clearly present. In strong light it is a deep mahogany color with a beige head that is decent but not outstanding. Thin to medium body with fine, mild, almost creamy, carbonation. There is heat, plumminess, and most definitely black currant. After the first moments, it seems a bit dusty. The finnish is rather dry, and leaves a dusty, fruity impression. Arguably a bit of wood accumulates. Bitter is not in it. It sips marvelously.

Aroma of yeast and hops. Yeast, chocolate, blackcurrant, coffee, alcohol and some roasted malt in the taste. Malty and syrupy with an intense long bittersweet finish. A classic! After several tastings on the terrace of Café de Engel in Oldenzaal, I’ll stick to my rating. With every sample you discover more flavors and aroma’s.

UPDATED: OCT 3, 2009 Sometimes life is beautiful. You come home from work on your birthday, and there it is. A Rochefort 10 served by your girlfriend at the right temperature. Appears dark brown with a huge head, that lasts. The aroma is very spiced and complex. You really want to try this beer. Notes of yeast and maybe corriander. The taste. Heavens. Find it hard to imagine that it gets any better. A remarkable balance between alcohol and the palate of tasteimpressions like chocolate, malt, coffee and other spices. The aftertaste is quite alcaholic but pleasant. This is absolutely the most complex and complete beer i’ve tasted till today. This I will revisit. 2009-10-03 I drink this temporarily, and are having one right now. It is still one hell of a beer, and I don´t have the urge to change my rating. This rocks big time.

Würzig schokoladiger, stark karbonisierter Beginn. Süßlich angehauchte Kräuternoten, etwas grasig, intensiv. Hefig, vergoren bananig, sehr trocken werdend. Karamellig herbes Finish. 8/10/11/13/9/11

Bottle Conditioned Ale. Deep brown red beer with thick white head. Plenty of fruity notes, apple and blackberry, plums and sultana's. Strong alcoholic nose which follows into the body of the beer, a little over lively but this sample was aged 3 years. Lovely smooth sipping beer.

golden brown hazy beer with a wonderful complex aroma of sugar, wine, hops and vanilla fudge/praline. Wonderful rich tatse of scotch with peach melba and hops intertwined, woody notes, very complex body, with a alcool warmth which lingers and pleases the tongue.

UPDATED: JAN 29, 2008 Bottle... The aroma is moderately malty and fruity (plums). Also hints of ruby port and the high ABV does come discreetly through in the nose. This murky dark brown beer has a tan, rocky head with excellent lacing. Fully lasting too. Bottle conditioned. The initial flavor is pretty darn malty with a lightly sweet and moderately bitter taste on the backside. Full-bodied with an oily mouthfeel. Lively carbonation with a long, slightly sweet finish. Personally, I was disappointed due to this beer’s extremely high rating. However, it’s definitely a quality Belgian ale.
