Nose of plums, raisins, malt, a little alcohol. Complex fruity/malty flavor with a bit of alcohol. Luscious mouthfeel. An excellent brew. daboskabouter (1470), Fergus, Ontario, Canada
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Nov 11, 2001 Beautiful. Mine was five years old. I’ll try a recent version next week. Great aroma or grapes, plums. Soft mouthfeel, long palate that won’t quit. Huge alcohol. Like someone at the beer tasting said: balance just isn’t an issue here. Surely one of my top tens. joeycapps (1466), Waterdown, Ontario, Canada
| 5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Mar 13, 2003 First thing I noticed was its sizzle. Best sounding beer I've had it a while. Otherwise: thick, opaque chocolate brown w/ powder-like sediment & lively beige head. Wonderfully complex nose with bubble gum, cookie dough, & toffee. Soft, full-bodied feel. Flavours are equally as complex as aroma if not more so. I'm getting cocoa, sweet dark fruit, brandy, toffee, cookie dough, pepper & vanilla. The alcohol is noticeable (perhaps not as well hidden as in the 8) and the finish is sweet yet dry w/ a lovely hint of hops. Dixen (1465), Flagstaff, Arizona, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jan 31, 2004 Aroma is some raisins, candied fruits and some acid. Very beautiful beer, color is mahogany colored like a dark plum, on top of that is a beauitiful head, unfortunately not very sustaining. Very intense flavor, vinous, fruity and very astonishing intense flavor of alcohol in a very nice way. It fills your mouth with its very intense flavor. Highly carbonated, makes this beer "wandering" about in your mouth. I was very delighted about Rochefort 8, and its bigbrother is far better. It is the bomb. Once more, my best regards to the monks at Abbaye St-Remy! holdenn (1456), Chicago, Illinois, USA

This was near the end of our tasting and I was feeling a bit disapointed, but one whiff of this and I was like a kid bouncing up and down on my stool. Just a perfect aroma so big and so many complexities. Just pouring off the top: toasted, toffee, brown sugar, oak cherry, port, grape, rasins, nutty, bready dough, the others didn’t compare. Rasin colored, nice sized beige head and good lacing. Many of the same complexities come out in the flavor, lightly sweet lots of rasins, plums, brown sugar, dried fruit, currants .... syruppy texture and a little fizzy. A delicioius long finish with a little alcohol. Wow. We all agreed, definitely the best abt/quad in the line up, better than St. B and Westy 12. damn fine beer. -------
330 ml. pours dark reddish brown color. A large array of aromas come out, raisins, plums, berries, carmel, sugars, and spice. It hits your tounge and covers your whole palate with a medium body and nice carbonation then the flavors of raisins, plums, currants, carmel, brown sugar, burnt sugar, molasses, chocolate, and a bit of alcohol in the finish. This is a very complex brew that the longer you think about it, the more you realize the delicate and balanced flavors of it. 4.8 Jokes (1453), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | May 13, 2002 This beer was good, but not great. My bottle had almost no head, and what little did come out, immeadiately disappeared. Of course, I made the mistake of serving it too cold. As it warmed, the flavors became significantly nicer. The alcohol was warming, but I did not think overwhelming. I noticed a strong taste of apples. In all, I feel like this beer needs another sampling because I saw hints of extraordinary. However, it did not have the overall strength I was expecting. Borresteijn (1452), Amsterdam, Netherlands

Aroma of raisins, chocolate, some alcohol, malts. Flavour is rich, raisins, chocolate, malty, other dark fruits, a little tartness. Mouthfeel is very creamy and thick, lots of carbonation but not assertive. Smooth. Superb. BoBoChamp (1449), Gent, Belgium
