Lots of raisin, yeast and dark fruits. Enough alcohol to warm you up yet not offend in the slightest. This truly is a special beer! joeneugs (372), Livermore, California, USA
| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Mar 8, 2009 I’m not breaking any new ground here, but this is simply the best beer I’ve ever had. Words can hardly describe... but here I go anyway. It pours a dark purpleish brown with a towering fizzy brown head that collapses quickly. The aroma is something special. Fruit basket. Apple, pear, plum, raisin, slight notes of banana, cherries. You name the fruit and its probably in there somewhere. The taste is amazingly complex, super fruity like the smell. Sweet, spicy, dusty yeast, licorice, chocolate, overipe fruit. I can taste every great beer I’ve ever had in this one. It absolutely met my expectations which is saying something, and I was seriously bummed out when it was gone. Reminds me of the Cinamon Raisin bread my grandpa would bake when I was little. Thick, malty with a slighly sweet undertone and a soft finish. In a family of legends this beer truly stands out. bedainedebiere (299), Terrebonne, Quebec, Canada
| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 3/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Apr 17, 2009 I rated the similar St.Bernardus 4.8/5 and I like this one probably as much, at least. It is a little sweeter and fruitier, the texture seemed even thicker and the whole product, more balanced and of a higher quality. So Rochefort, you force me to lower my St.Bernardus rating! You’ll get that 4.8 now because you are an absolutely outstanding beer, with an amazing depth of tastes that I truly appreciate more than almost any other I had. But you are a he** of an ugly beer with your black clogs, let me tell you that! But don’t change, stay as you are, we love you that way! monkeychugg55 (244), Joliet, Illinois, USA
| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Apr 7, 2009 Poured a deep dark brown with a long lasting beige head. Aroma seems to come through more as the head retreats; chocolate, toffee, dark fruit, raisin, white wine, sweetness from the malt, and just a fine hint of alcohol. Holy shit!!! The taste is remarkable. Flavor is similar to aroma, except for mellow hops and stronger malt presence. Surprisingly, high abv not detected until tail end of the clean, slightly dry finish. This stuff is magical.

| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Nov 27, 2008 Dark brown color with medium tan head. Aroma of malt, nuts and some berries. Full. smooth, flavor with enormous complexity. Grows even more complex and full-flavored with 3-5 years of consistent storage. Approaches Westvleteren 12 in terms of flavor and complexity. A true classic. davidm (229), Melbourne, Australia
| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Nov 17, 2009 Bottle 330ml. A masterpiece. Aroma has raisins, port, and caramel; with earthy yeast tones getting strong as we go. Flavour is warming and sweet, with bitter notes and a long finish. Palate is syrupy, full-bodied, and the finish is alcoholic. Dark brown colour, cloudy, with a fizzy head that disappears. Wolfbass (98), Firenze, Italy
| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Nov 20, 2009 Dark brown color, with creamy, persistent and adherent foam. The aroma, very complex, it is intense, attractive and elegant, with notes of chocolate, fruit (plums) and malt. In mouth it departs very strong, powerful, alcoholic for then to perfectly pass to an endless of tastes all amalgamate. The body is well structured. The long end, dry, spicy and bitterish. Bottle purchased to Messancy (Belgium) to 1,60 Euro. Divine delight.
