scraff (1628), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Apr 14, 2006 Deep murky brown, huge tan rocky head. Nose was very rich with notes of plum, raisin toast, caramelized fig, and toffee, with lesser tones of cherry and angel food cake. Flavor up front is all about dark fruits and soft booze. It rounds out nicely with a soft push of woodsy bitterness. Full bodied, moderate carbonation, lightly bittersweet, dark fruity finish. This is a fantastic late night sipper that is one of the best in it’s class.
phishpond417 (1360), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Aug 20, 2008 Well...here it is... Pours a mystical, magical, mysterious glorious but questionable muddy mahogany, dark brown colour. Head is tan, full and enticingly aromatic. Mouthfeel is incredible. creamy, fulfilling and delightful. aroma is sweet, carmel infused and balanced beyond perfection. Taste is without a doubt satisfyign beyond description. Lightly roasted caramel malts, generous floral accented butterscotch toffee flavors. Incredible beer, glad i finally found this one. :) ILoveNewBeer (79), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Aug 19, 2008 It smells sweet like when you open a fresh bag of Gummy Bears. A bit of cherry to the nose and tongue. Can’t initially taste the alcohol but after it sits on your tongue you can catch a lingering of the alcohol flavor but not overwhelming. This is a really good beer, one of the best beers that I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying. Consider yourself privileged if you are able to enjoy this one. jaghana (12), Strasbourg, France Aug 17, 2008 This is my farovite beer. Very complex aroma, caramel and spaces taste, so gorgious that the alcool is completly forgotten. Unbelieveble smell, this beer would never disappoint anybody. sleestak (57), Williamston, Michigan, USA Aug 16, 2008 Bottle. Dark brown with a tan head that quickly settles into a frothy ring. Significant sediment. Aroma is dates, raisin, and brandy. Taste is all that and more. Brown sugar sweetness, but not cloying. Dark fruits and bready yeastiness yield to a warm alcohol afterglow. Fizzy mouthfeel and sticky finish. Iconic beer that’s everywhere you want to be. moelikebeer (112), New Brighton, Minnesota, USA Aug 15, 2008 Bottle. Dark brown pour with medium head and lots of sediment. Aroma of caramel, brown sugar, sweet malt, dark fruit and some spice. Flavor of brown sugar, raisin and spice and alcohol. That said, it certainly doesn’t taste like 11.3% abv. Lot of carbonation.
