hombrepalo (506), Chicago, Illinois, USA Dec 26, 2007 11.2 oz bottle for X-mas. What can I say about this beer. Simply the best beer man can have. This beer was nearly perfect. Poured a dark brownish color with a foamy dark off white colored head. Aroma of plums, raisins, bananas, carmel, yeasts, sweets and more. All quite balanced for that great beer aroma. Taste like a heavenly crisp elegant beer. Complex taste of all the aromas mentioned. Smooth and balanced, could hardly notice the alcohol but know it is there. The only downfall to this beer is the size, this beer left me wanting more. Mmmm delicious! Now I can say I have had the best beer I can get my hands on.
tedovertu (132), Apple Valley, Minnesota, USA Oct 10, 2008 Plum, prune, cherry, and brown surgar aroma with a little cinnamon. Unbelievable in its complexity. Average light brown head. Virtually no lacing that is mostly diminishing. Hazy body with medium particles. Sweet initial flavor wih a little sour in the finish. Medium to full bodied with an astringent mouth feel. JonnyDr (112), , South Yorkshire, England Oct 9, 2008 Medium brown with small short lasting head. Raisins, chocolate and plenty of malt lead to spices, bread and a generally smooth finish. Charming. swooper (96), Kladno, Czech Republic Oct 5, 2008 coffee, bread, nuts, black, hazy, frothy, heavy cloying sweetness, lightly bitter, for very strong beer very nice flavor, medium body, long finish, slick feel, luv_casks (176), USA Oct 4, 2008 Purchased 3 yrs ago - 1st rainy day seemed like a good day for this.
Pours a gorgeous deep deep mahogany with garnet highlights and a fluffy long lasting tan head leaving nice lace on the glass.
First thing I noticed is the big hiss on opening .. the yeast have been working
Nose: Plum, figs, some licorice, bready notes along with white pepper and way way deep in the background is a whiff of alcohol along with a touch of old ale like vinous qualities.
Taste: Lots of rich malt notes including caramel dark fruits and tons of spicy notes leaning towards white pepper. For the malt complexity this beer finishes dry. The palate is a little overwhelmed by the carbonic bite and the hugely warming alcohol
Mouthfeel: The higher than expected carbonation makes the beer more dry than expected and does not have a luxuriating finish which the nose hinted
Overall: Stuff of legends in the nose (with a such a big alcohol % hidden so well) maybe my bottle got over carbonated. The taste complexity was there but the high carbonation was a quite distracting. Once I drove out the CO2 the magic - maybe my bottle was slightly over carbonated. While the huge alcohol makes this a sipper the rich flavors and super dry finish make the sips closer (Caveat: The floor can get uneven very quickly) TET (133), Finland Oct 4, 2008 Very dark brown beer with beige velvet-like head. Aroma is sweet and temptating: raisins, fruits and some spicys are also found. Flavour is not so sweet than you can expect based on aroma. Flavour changes quite dry in the end. Spicys, dry hops and fullness flavour with pepperness made from alcohol per cents are found. Rochefort 10 is wonderfull complex and strong beer that gives you joyful surprises for every mouthfull.
