The top product from the Rochefort Trappist brewery. Dark color, full and very impressive taste. Strong plum, raisin, and black currant palate, with ascending notes of vinousness and other complexities.

Deep chestnut brown. Humungous head of medium and compact bubbles. Tacky lace. Vinegar, fruit(figs, prunes), bacitracin, sweet and sour sauce, blue cheese, tobacco, leather, and alcohol aromas, to name a few. Figs, plums, sour berries, bitter baker’s chocolate, Stilton cheese, and an amalgam of spices and flavors I can’t put a finger on. Mildly astringent and dry. A mild bitterness creeps down the back of the tongue, similar to the feel of an espresso. Really dry fruitiness as it warms.

I haven’t had this for a couple of years so this is just from memory: Acetone, roasted malts, and a very nasty aftertaste (some other low rating user commented upon this more elaborately.) Beer in the glass starts to smell like puke. Only gets marginally better(read more tolerable) with age. Massively overrated.(and so is the 8) I’ve been having this for years prior to starting tasting beer or even being aware of it’s reputation. Never even entered my mind this would be rated this highly. Very much preferred Tuborg gold or Budweiser to this and used to drink it very cold only cause of the high abv to get drunk. And often had difficulty finishing w my bottle.

Bottle. Big, creamy, brownish head. With, of course, lot of lacing. The color of liquid part is redish-brown. In nose there are corriander, bubble gum, chocolate, dark fruits... wow. Flavor is chocolate, bubble gum, corriander with some pepperness and alcohol. Actually, hoppy finish. Sweet at begining but bitter finish. Overall: when i bought this beer I thought that it will be overpriced. Good but overpriced. Now I think: this is awsome beer. Real beauty.

Cloudy deep brown beer, big head that’s fades. Aroma raisin, malt, booze, vanilla. Taste is raisin, molasses, spice, anise, banana, some toasted barley. Palate is rich, not thick, carbonation is bright and bubbly, very soda-like. Expected more...

Aroma de chocolate e caramelo. Escura, sabor particular, amargor nao muito intenso, com gosto marcante entre caramelo, chocolate e café. Sensacional!!!

Bottle. Dark brown almost opaque black color and light brown head. Aroma has sweet ripe fruits, caramel, raisins, plums. Taste is a bit sweet but ends with a quite dry and somewhat bitter aftertaste. Flavors of raisin, ripe fruits, coffee, dark chocolate, malt, toffee. Very well balanced. Excellent one.

Great example of this style. Second best behind the Westvleteren. Perhaps a toss up.

This a true gem, it has everything. Beautiful caramel color. Amazing strong vinous and dry fruits notes. full body. Sweetness and alcool perfectly balanced with all the flavours.
