This beer, the oldest of the three Rochefort Trappist beers, has the reddish colour of autumn leaves, a soft body and an earthy, herbal palate (a hint of Darjeeling tea), which develops into a deep fruitiness.

UPDATED: OCT 28, 2015 This is a good Belgian Ale, but not the best. The aroma is good, and the appearance is better than tha taste. I think the beer has a medium body. I defenetly enjoy the beer. It is a good ale.

Bottle from hop hideout, sheffield. Amber with particles and thick off white head. Aroma figgy and bread. Taste is sweet and savoury. Surprisingly prickly and a bit thin. Ok, 8 and 10 are better.

Bottle, 330ml. Pours dark reddish copper with short off white head. Scent of dry fruit and choclate. Body is medium-light and texture is oily to watery with a strong tangy zest. Tastes quite sweet with very little bitterness and a hint of sourness. Flavors of raisins, dried plums, chocolate, liquor, alcohol, caramel, honey, dark malt, cherry, licorice, bread, light cinnamon. Gets better as it sits in the glass, but itís heavy drinking, so sip slowly and have water and something to snack. Flavors are very rich and pleasant, but body is too thin and the taste is too sweet, even for the style. Very good overall.

BB 09.42.20. Bottled. 23 srm. Deep amber, bright red hue. Earthy, rich soil, dirt. Low dms? Artificial aroma from shampoo? Wet clay Confused nose. Knowing the yeast strain would help zone in. Same with flavor, finishes light, lager-type finish. When grain dust gummies up during the sparge. Herbal, gummy malt dust.

Belgian beers can be nuanced to the point of being deceptively simple. Trappistes Rochefort 6 is the embodiment of that example. You need to spend some time with it to truly appreciate its subtleties. Absolutely no experience is needed to see how lovely it is, however. The amber body and beautifully uniform head illustrate that point clearly. Aroma isnít huge, but itís complex and refined. Candied fruit, caramel, and a big hit of juicy grape. Flavor has more of the same but with a bigger note of caramel. Sometimes this beer is described as tea-like, and I can see why. At the middle of the mouth, the fruitiness briefly gives way to leafy flavors. Youíll miss it if you donít pay close attention. Mouthfeel isnít particularly full, yet the carbonation which is so obviously lively in the glass is perfectly soft on the palate. Rochefort 6 is usually the least celebrated brew in its familyís holy trinity, but pity the sinner who overlooks it.

Lekker bier. Caramel, rijp fruit, brood, mineralig en kruidig in de finish. Vrij zoet, maar met mooi gebalanceerd bitter en zuurtje.
