This beer, the oldest of the three Rochefort Trappist beers, has the reddish colour of autumn leaves, a soft body and an earthy, herbal palate (a hint of Darjeeling tea), which develops into a deep fruitiness.

Bottle at Specialty Beer Cellar. Cloudy light brown pour with an off white head. Sweet malt and brown sugar aromas. Effervescent with big malty notes. Some sweetness to it with brown sugar and caramel back beats. Good body and mouthfeel.

Pour was pretty fizzy at first. Head was super fizzy too which made me think it wouldn’t last but it sat down to about a 1/4" and just stayed there like a champ. Nose is fruity, biscuits, caramels, toast, plum, grape, sweet malts, a touch of banana, and just a touch of yeasty spice. Flavor is similar with sweet balanced, long lasting malt and fruity yeast flavors. Really nice- WHY HAVE I NOT HAD THIS BEFORE??!

Pours hazy ruby/brown with an off white head. Aroma: damp hay, port, leather, brown sugar. Taste: raisins, figs, apples, plums, rye, toffee. Medium body, fizzy carbonation, buttery sweet with some bitter with a slight sour tartness and some spices in the finish.

33 cl bottle split two ways. Murky light brown pour with a frothy small head that fades fairly quick. Nose has yeast, brown sugar and some floral notes. Taste has again yeast, syrup, raisins, figs and some herbal notes.
