COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer, the oldest of the three Rochefort Trappist beers, has the reddish colour of autumn leaves, a soft body and an earthy, herbal palate (a hint of Darjeeling tea), which develops into a deep fruitiness.

12 oz. bottle from Cash Wise in Williston. Appearance: 2 fingers khaki caramel head that does not last, amber brown red color, lightly cloudy, head is gone quickly, oily lacing. Aroma: light prune, molasses, light grassy hops, light lemon. Palate: medium body, lively and sparkling carbonation, alcohol warming, oily texture, dry finish. Taste: thin fruit sweetness, into a rich malty sweet that transitions back into a fuller light prune fruit flavor and finishes sweet. Overall, very malty rich, carbonation is a bit much for me, but the flavors are surprisingly mild. Very nice beer, but maybe not up to all the hype.

Poured from 33cl bottle. Aroma of citrus with hint of cough drop. Pours a cloudy amber with white head. Has a very light bitter taste. Medium body, oily texture, with a dry finish. Overall a pretty good brew, although I’m not a big fan of the dry finish.

Bottle into Trappist glass, cloudy rusty brown color with tan head. Aroma of raisins, apples, butterscotch, light citrus, nuttiness, milk chocolate and faint vanilla. Taste adds notes of dough, brown sugar, plums, light spices, slight woodiness and faint grassy bitterness. Medium body, low-moderate carbonation, thick, creamy with dry yeasty finish. Very nice drinkable and complex Dubbel/Belgian strong.

Can’t believe I haven’t rated this. Bottle from Redmonds. Amber brown, cloudy, foamy off white head. Malty nose, some raisins and molasses. Toasted malt flavour, sweet dark fruits, more raisins, brioche and brown sugar. Decent body, loads of carbonation. Figs in the finish, with a little warmth. Lovely.

Soft herbal aroma. Taste is herbal too. Spicy full body. Spiciness persistent. Complex. Balanced.

Hazy amber body with a thick beige head. Aroma is sweet fruit and herbs, yeast, caramel. Taste is medium sweet with low bitterness. Light body, thin texture. Light but not boring. And more importantly easy to drink.

330 ml bottle. Hazy dark amber color. Small creamy beige head. Candy-like herbal malt nose. Flavor is sweet and malty with notes of raisins, vanilla and brown sugar. Soft and drinkable with earthy yeast notes. Finish has a touch of red bell peppers and herbal hops. Simply delicious.

33 cl bottle @ home. Pours cloudy dark amber with some sediment and an off-white head that leaves a little lacing. Aroma and flavour are caramel, dried fruit, sugar, and yeast - with a slightly dry finish.

Just as good as the 10, but nicely different. More earthy, more what I’d expect as Trappist, but what am I saying, these guys pretty much invented the stuff. Herbal yet had the dried fruit balance. Stunning brew.a++++
