COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer, the oldest of the three Rochefort Trappist beers, has the reddish colour of autumn leaves, a soft body and an earthy, herbal palate (a hint of Darjeeling tea), which develops into a deep fruitiness.

Bottle from Glug Newcastle. Very carbonated which makes it a bit heavy going but a nice nutty, fruity flavour

Bottle 33cl. A brown opaque beer with a small white head. It is possible to see the sediments at the bottom. It has a mild to strong aroma and taste is bitter with a strong alcohol finish. Carbonation is too heavy and reminds me of cider.

Bottle, 33cl. Pours an opaque brownish/ruby colour with plenty of visible sediment and a creamy offwhite head that recedes quickly. Aroma features a nice roasted character with plenty of dry fruits and sweetness. Thick body, with a very earthy feel and abundant carbonation. A touch sour, with some light bitterness and alcohol at the finish. Decent beer.

Red/amber color with strong aroma of roasted malt and a good dose of fruit like cherries, blackberries ripe cherries and soft caramel base. Caramely taste, with malts, sweet fruits like ripe plums and figs.

Bottle, 330 ml. Pours cloudy reddish-amber with a finger of off-white soapy head. Good amount of lacing as it dissipates. Aroma of caramel and bready malts, with honey, nut praline and some dark fruit notes. Tastes strongly of bready and nutty malts (the nuts being more prominent than in the aroma) and some toffee and sweeter fruity notes that are a little hard to discern specifically. More nuts in the aftertaste. Carbonation is perhaps a little excessive, and the body is medium. Doesn’t quite have the warmth and sweetness of the 8 or the labyrinthine complexity of the 10, but a fine experience nonetheless.

Bottle at home. Pours a cloudy brown color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma and flavor have caramel, sweet bread, toffee, golden raisins, additional dark fruit, yeast, cherry, with some dryness to the finish. Tasted alongside 8 and 10.

Brown, complex nose of fruits and candy sugar. So soft. Sugar, fruits, toffee. Softness make the difference here
