This beer, the oldest of the three Rochefort Trappist beers, has the reddish colour of autumn leaves, a soft body and an earthy, herbal palate (a hint of Darjeeling tea), which develops into a deep fruitiness.

Mostly maltiness, light caramel, fruitiness, dried fruits, berries, light yeast, light spices. Moderate sweet with light bitterness in finish. Sadly for me it lacks intensity like 8 and 10, but anyways - quite nice brew.

Empfehlung!

4.7.2014. Hazy reddish orange, lasting white head. Aroma has caramel sweetness, fruits, biscuit, plum. Palate has crisp carbonation. Taste is similar to aroma. Sweet malts, plum, biscuit, raisin. Alcohol slightly pushes through.

É uma boa pedida tomar todas as 3 Rochefort em sequencia, iniciando por essa. É perceptivel o menor teor alcoolico, paladar reflete mais a presença dos maltes, tornando-a menos doce. Minha marca trapista favorita.

Amber pour with a thin, fizzy head. Some wonderfully complex flavours including caramel and yeast notes, orange and lemon zest, herbs and spices, and earthy/grassy tones.

Appearance- amber, a solid one finger off-white head which hangs around. Aroma- creamy malt, chocolate orange, biscuit, yeasty, spicy, hint of banana bread. Taste- very nice. Tangy orange, brown, malty bread, hint of pepper, orange peel and spice, vague caramel sweetness, fizzy and fluffy in the mouth, some dark fruit undertones, sugary raisin. Really good.

Bottle. Hazy amber color with huge fine-grained steady head. Aroma is not strong but complex: caramel notes, some dry fruits, some yeast. Taste is lightly sweet, mild. Tastes like it’s not strong beer. Finish is surprisingly short. Very nice delicate ale.

seymour (1591) - Maplewood, Missouri, USA - MAR 4, 2015
Poured from brown bottle into a snifter glass. It poured a deep amber colour, slightly hazy, with a creamy head of tight little beige bubbles, fine Belgian lace. Aromas of freshly-cut grass, earthy hops, juicy apricots, baking bread and sugar cookies, nutmeg, black pepper, bubble gum. Rich malt flavours but not too sweet, caramelly, nice round fruitiness, balanced by noble hop bitterness, hints of molasses, rum, raisins, nutmeg, clove, cola. Light body but surprisingly full mouthfeel, intense carbonation, complex malty/hoppy/estery/spicy aftertastes which finished dry. No trace of alcoholic heat, despite the 7.5% ABV. A true brewing masterpiece, worthy of all the hype.
