COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer, the oldest of the three Rochefort Trappist beers, has the reddish colour of autumn leaves, a soft body and an earthy, herbal palate (a hint of Darjeeling tea), which develops into a deep fruitiness.

330ml bottle from St. Veronus. Light brown body with a white, quickly dissipating head. Some brown sediment is present. Notes of wood, wet forest floor, some orange zest. Tingly carbonation with an earthy finish with a very subtle alcoholic warmth.

Solid, full-flavored Dubbel with lots of fruit and malt. Nice transition from sweet to dry, but a little light on the body and somewhat foamy in the mouth. All in all a great brew.

Fantastyczna mętna ciemnobrązowa barwa. Długo utrzymująca się się gęsta piana. Bogaty smak ze słodkim posmakiem.

330 ml bottle purchased at Julio’s Liquors. Dark brown color with lasting head. Aroma is laced with dark fruits (plums, dates, figs) and some dark sugars.

The flavor is rich and sweet that the style calls for. Burnt toffee, dried fruits sprinkled with sugar, thick molasses and hints of roasted nuts. Nice complexity and a true classic.

Not as commercially available as its relatives, 8 and 10. This one is on the lighter side of that array.

De color rojizo y tonos ámbar, de cuerpo suave, presenta sabores terrosos y herbales. Fuerte aroma a malta, ligeramente amarga. De final delicadamente sutil con presencia de especias y caramelo. Su sabor fino hace de ella una delicia para el paladar.

"while i enjoyed this one, it was almost distractingly light in aroma and body...well, flavor too i suppose for a dubble. but while i prefer a couple fuller bodied american dubbles, this was quite tasty and definitely has it’s place in my fridge when i’m in the mood for a lighter, more delicate version. All the Roch beers are complex, and this one is no exception, it’s just lighter fruits on the nose, and in the flavor, and fresher tasting than the others. Well done as well. Not a blow your mind beer, but quite good. 6/09-another one that’s gotten just a touch better each time."

UPDATED: DEC 16, 2014 330ml bottle served in its own chalice. A: Pours a cloudy amber to brow (nutty) color. Some particles can be seen floating around. Forms a huge beige head when poured but retention is medium to low. A small layer remains and some lacings are formed and left in the glass S: Sweet and "bready". Caramel malts, toffee and Belgium yeasts. Dry dark fruits and alcohol T: As suggested by the nose: Upfront is slightly sweet followed by bready and earthy yeasts. Strong notes of caramel, caramel malts, brown bread, dark fruits and candy sugar. End is slightly bitter M: Medium and molasses body. Medium carbonation. Belgian bittersweet aftertaste O: Excellent dirinkability. Less complex than the 8 or 10 but still a Rochefort [ BA Review @ 1/30/2010 ]

Dark brown hazy body and a very nice creamy lasting head. Aroma of malt, chocolate, fign, raisin. The taste is medium to heavy sweet and light bitter. Creamy texture.

Bottle from Congress, Longton. Red brown with loads of carbonation a la Rochefort. Much more easy drinking than the strength. Rochefort stuff is excellent.
