This beer, the oldest of the three Rochefort Trappist beers, has the reddish colour of autumn leaves, a soft body and an earthy, herbal palate (a hint of Darjeeling tea), which develops into a deep fruitiness.

Bottle. Dark red, brown with sediment. Dark soft maltiness on nose. Belgian yeast, but mostly the brownish malts. Body is lightish. Malts, sure, but in a lighter manner than expected, and not really any of the anticipated candi Some hoppiness also, old grassy nobles, that is. Well carbonated. Feels light, considering the hefty abv. Overall an enjoyable brew. It feels almost like a german bock malt-wise, but ester-wise there’s that special poo that only a robust yeast strain can dump into your drink.

330 mL bottle. Dark amber pour, thin bubbly tan head. Spicy aroma, coriander, caramel, cereal grains. Sweet malty body, some herbal tones, honey, spicy again, earthy hops. Nice and complex

Bottle, 330ml. Pours dark reddish copper with short off white head. Scent of dry fruit and choclate. Body is medium-light and texture is oily to watery with a strong tangy zest. Tastes quite sweet with very little bitterness and a hint of sourness. Flavors of raisins, dried plums, chocolate, liquor, alcohol, caramel, honey, dark malt, cherry, licorice, bread, light cinnamon. Gets better as it sits in the glass, but it’s heavy drinking, so sip slowly and have water and something to snack. Flavors are very rich and pleasant, but body is too thin and the taste is too sweet, even for the style. Very good overall.

BB 09.42.20. Bottled. 23 srm. Deep amber, bright red hue. Earthy, rich soil, dirt. Low dms? Artificial aroma from shampoo? Wet clay Confused nose. Knowing the yeast strain would help zone in. Same with flavor, finishes light, lager-type finish. When grain dust gummies up during the sparge. Herbal, gummy malt dust.

Belgian beers can be nuanced to the point of being deceptively simple. Trappistes Rochefort 6 is the embodiment of that example. You need to spend some time with it to truly appreciate its subtleties. Absolutely no experience is needed to see how lovely it is, however. The amber body and beautifully uniform head illustrate that point clearly. Aroma isn’t huge, but it’s complex and refined. Candied fruit, caramel, and a big hit of juicy grape. Flavor has more of the same but with a bigger note of caramel. Sometimes this beer is described as tea-like, and I can see why. At the middle of the mouth, the fruitiness briefly gives way to leafy flavors. You’ll miss it if you don’t pay close attention. Mouthfeel isn’t particularly full, yet the carbonation which is so obviously lively in the glass is perfectly soft on the palate. Rochefort 6 is usually the least celebrated brew in its family’s holy trinity, but pity the sinner who overlooks it.

Lekker bier. Caramel, rijp fruit, brood, mineralig en kruidig in de finish. Vrij zoet, maar met mooi gebalanceerd bitter en zuurtje.

A very good dark Belgian strong ale. It has a very nice aroma of dark fruits and caramel.

Dark caramel in colour with an off-white head. This is a Dubbel style beer with a malty, peppery honey aroma. The taste is not as creamy or robust as the 8 or 10, but it still holds its own with caramel, brown sugar, honey and vanilla mixed with the toasted malt and spices. There is very little aftertaste, but it leaves a carbonated warmth on your palate.

Jo jo igen en dejlig trappistøl - vil dog altid vælge så højt et nummer som muligt. 6'eren er den dårligste af disse bryg!

Totally different vs the blondes from Westvleteren and Westmalle, which are belgian hoppy pale ales, but not a dubbel either. This is a lighter version of the 8 and the 10 with the unmistakeable coriander notes of Rochefort. Aromas of coriander, spicy yeast, caramel, indian curry spice, bread, cereal. Flavors of coriander, banana, caramel, cereal, toast. Finish is semi-dry to dry. Good beer.
