This beer, the oldest of the three Rochefort Trappist beers, has the reddish colour of autumn leaves, a soft body and an earthy, herbal palate (a hint of Darjeeling tea), which develops into a deep fruitiness.

330 ml. bottle, served in chalice glass (I can’t find my Rochefort one). Red copper colour, with a small head that fades soon, leaving a minimal lace. Smell of chocolate, cherries, ripened fruits, port wine. Palate is just a pleasure, not much carbonation, just go round your tongue like a nectar. Taste is like the smell: cherries, chocolate, port wine, dark and ripened fruits, caramel. Glory.

33 cl bottle at home. Pours a ruddy-brown colour with a white head that soon disappears. Quite light for a dubbel. Aroma of raisin bread and slight roast. Taste is sweet but with a long bitterness to finish. Quite lively on the tongue, fruity and with a nice finish. Overall very pleasant. My example is quite fresh, I suspect this will mellow quite nicely with age.

A beer amber coloring dark sweet flavor and very pleasant to me. Its alcohol content is quite noticeable to savor. I felt this beer as remarkable as his sisters 8:10, and actually the lightest of them. Ends up being the lighter weight of this Abbey, with first quality and balance, fine softer, starting with carbonation. I could feel in your body a tan and light caramel malt. Its aftertaste was nice and smooth. Has a higher drinkalibity on sunny days.

Hazy orange-brown with a large head that "sponges" away quickly. Fresh herbal smell; floral, some fruit, tart, wine. Flavor is bready and yeasty; savory, earthy, caramel and dark fruit/raisins balanced by a nice tartness. Slightly sweet moving into a dry finish with plenty of carbonation. It has the rich flavor of 10 with a much lighter body.

Bottle 33 cl from Barleywine, Copenhagen. Orange/brown, with a beige nice head. Orange marmelade, caramel, coca-cola, slight sweetness, some citrus, some toffee. Medium body, medium/lively carbonation, very fitting and nice body. Refreshing, great to have these trappist flavours in a more refreshing lighter beer as opposed to the heavier ones.

Dark syrup, honey, flowers and some overripe red apples in aroma. Greyish brown colour. Refreshing bit acidic taste, a bit citrusy bit of honey sweetness n finish. Light and refreshing for beeing a 7,5% Belgian strong ale
