COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer, the oldest of the three Rochefort Trappist beers, has the reddish colour of autumn leaves, a soft body and an earthy, herbal palate (a hint of Darjeeling tea), which develops into a deep fruitiness.

Pours deep dark reddish brown with thin effervescent head. Aromas of malt, apple, fig, phenols. Taste follows. Light mouthfeel and phenolic palate. Good beer but phenolic, plastic aftertaste persists. --- Cheers

BBD 8/1/16. Pours a slightly cloudy medium amber with a nice dash of garnet. World class head volume, lacing and retention. Outstanding nose of light caramel with a slight char, raisins, figs, hints of plum and a very subtle hint of clove over a biscuit base. Light body that is smooth. Superb carbonation / body balance. Light effervescence arrives in the middle and gains intensity resulting in a prickly finish. The flavor profile is very good but lacks the complexity and intensity to be outstanding. Separation is a bit lacking but the flavors of the nose can be discerned. It begins a bit charred then flows to light fruit and caramel. Bitterness is virtually absent. The finish reveals a bit of clove.

Óriási, sokáig tartó piszkosfehér hab. Kissé élesztős, fűszeres illat, csekély gyümölcsös beütéssel. Finom karamelles, fűszeres ízvilág, de elmarad a nagyobb testvérektől. Kicsit sok a szénsav.

330 ml bottle. Pours copper with an off-white head. The taste is slightly yeasty with some surprising hints of coffee. Medium to full body with lively carbonation. The taste is sweet and malty - caramel and some coffee again -along with some acidity with the aroma of stone fruits and also some alcohol.

Underestimate beer, most people buy or taste Rochefort 8 or 10 but they forget this beauty. Perfect for food pairing.
