This beer, the oldest of the three Rochefort Trappist beers, has the reddish colour of autumn leaves, a soft body and an earthy, herbal palate (a hint of Darjeeling tea), which develops into a deep fruitiness.

Bottle best by 11/3/09, I purchased this at Steves 4 years ago. Strong aroma of leather, raisins and toffee and a hint of chocolate. Dark amber, no cloudiness, sparkling carbonation and a thin, but persistent off-white head. Sweet taste of caramel, leather, subtle dried fruit and a dusty old tootsie roll, if tootsie rolls tasted good when they were old. Noticeable alcohol in the finish. Medium in body with a slick texture, very lively carbonation and a long, drying finish.

Light orange/dark copper with a tiny white ring. Ripe red fruit, nuts, light caramel, hint of bubblegum. Very sweet, slight bitterness. Medium body, slick with a high carbonation, long light roasted nuts finish.

Hazy pale brown tinged golden. Thin bubbly ringed head and soft lacing. Fading cardboard maltiness, loose brassy sweetness. Not as keen sweet as I had fresher in Brugge. Vintage 2010.

Heerlijk fruitig biertje. Wat donker maar een heerlijke donkere smaak wat perfect bij de herfst past.

Bottle. Hazy rust coloured red with a moderately lasting bubbly off white head. Earthy aroma, some forest fruits, strawberry, vanilla. Taste is of forest fruits, orange, hints of tomato and red pepper too. Medium to high carbonation, smooth mouthfeel.

Wow, just noticed a month ago that I had never rated this. Vegetables, cooked cabbage, also sweet with fizz. Bottle from Nap in Woerden
