COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer, the oldest of the three Rochefort Trappist beers, has the reddish colour of autumn leaves, a soft body and an earthy, herbal palate (a hint of Darjeeling tea), which develops into a deep fruitiness.

Pours chestnut-brown with soft white head. Yeasty, malty scents with dominant butterscotch notes and some medium light chocolate. Rather light bodied with emphasis on sweetness and some lightly roasted malty notes. No bitterness and a decent finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Reddish-brown color with medium, white and unsustainable head. Aroma of dark fruits, spices, alcohol, caramel and toffee. There is also a hint of cereals. Taste is fruity (plums, raisins), caramel and malty. Some alcoholic bitterness. Carbonation is little to high. Not as good as 10 but it’s still a very good beer.

Pours a amber color. Smells sweet/sour like candy. Taste is a bit odd. Not clean like 8 and 10. Pours a amber color. Smells sweet/sour like candy. Taste is a bit odd. Not clean like 8 and 10.

Brown-orange color, minimal but lasting head. Aroma of candy sugar, fruits, bubblegum. Taste is quite sweet but still balanced, some anise in the aftertaste. A very good trappist, less famous than the 8 and 10 but almost as complex and more subtile.

Bottle. Pours dark red-amber with medium white head. Aroma of cookies, toffee, caramelized sugar. A little bit overcarbonated. Oh, the taste is definitely rich. Like a pie with loads of toffee. Some fruity and spicy notes too. Biscuity aftertaste. Good.

Pours a very dark red brown with a good sustainable head. Aroma is musky, dark rich herb, buttery, cocoa butter, booze, tons of rich toffee. Taste is toffee, caramel, butter, caramelized brown sugar, nutty, plum, raisin, hay, cereal grain. Overall even better than I remember from all those years ago, this is a true trappist, one ever beer geek should have a few of.

High carbonisation level, too much, aroma - fruits, some spices, same as taste. One of my favourite strong ales! Tasted it first time long time ago, now it’s not so good as then, but still loved it!
