This beer, the oldest of the three Rochefort Trappist beers, has the reddish colour of autumn leaves, a soft body and an earthy, herbal palate (a hint of Darjeeling tea), which develops into a deep fruitiness.

Very special. Will try the 8 and 10 but a little pricey by the bottle. It should be same price as chimay or innes and gunn.........

UPDATED: MAY 6, 2016 Robe miel foncé. Carbonatation longue. Bière posée sur une longueur équilibrée. Alcool présent mais très bien maîtrisée. Amertume très ronde. Agréable sur toute la dégustation. Des notes de pain, de noix, sucre candy. Une grande bière !

Hazy deep rustic Amber with a thin ivory lasting cap. Lovely nose of raisins and dates and a little currant and cherries. Smooth and rustic fruity flavor featuring some dates, cherries and currant without being overly sweet or juicy, lovely gentle dark tea tones, and a soft fruity finish.

Pours clear copper. Aroma of berries, malt, dried fruit, caramel. Nicely balanced and very dry. Low bitterness.

Dark honey colour, impressive light beige top, wonderful look. Complex but not loud aroma and taste. Distinguished strong ale. Divine bread aftertaste. I would like to open one bottle everyday. Do not want to disturb this beer with many words. Try it and enjoy!

Smells sweet and fruity, a bit of ripe banana. A brown color which turns amber red when held in the light. A taste of bitter and sweetness. Fairly light body and lively carbonation. One of my faves.

Looks bright, clear and ambered (kind of). Nice yeast at the bottom (tasty). Short lasting foam. Smells and tastes little bitter and very fruity/yeasty/malty. Average a the palate though. Very good and light beer !

Looks like a glass of iced tea, ruby hues with a small beige head. Sweet smell, alcohol noticeable, some spice. Like a rum & coke! Small fizzy carbonation, sweet, fruity, wild mushrooms, I used to really like this style, until I went to the "Dark side" of Impy Stouts and IPAs. Tasty in a subtle way but lacks the "wow" factor I really appreciate in a beer.

330ml Bottle from Whole Foods Market, Giffnock (£2.99):
Another very nice beer from Rochefort, not as strong, full-bodied or flavoursome as their Rochefort 10 but that was to be expected; still an excellent beer in its own right with some great fruity sweetness & sugars coming through on top of a well-balanced body. I liked the caramel that made an appearance early on & their was some light malts that worked well making this one quite an enjoyable beer; I’m definitely looking forward to getting hold of Rocherfort 8 the next chance I get.
