room_temp_beer (185), Franklin, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 14, 2004 Beer pours (in Chimay glass) a clear, average brown and red liquid with a medium amount of off-white head that lingers and is awesome - smooth, creamy, taking on the appearence of the top of a vanilla milkshake. Aroma is a mixed array of sweet fruits - strawberry, orange, apple, pear, lemon, bannana - and a nice floral bouquette as well - a lot like Rochefort 8. Flavor is of a light fruit and flower arrangement you can drink. IMO, this beer is a "softened down" version of Rochefort 8, even more pleasant to drink. This may become my favorite "everyday" beer, taking the place of Chimay Blue. Very excellent - I look forward to buying a case of it. Sampled at 68 degrees Fahrenheit. tramp55555 (35), Lisbon, Ohio, USA Nov 8, 2006
Best damn beer I ’ve ever had, except for their 10.. I’ve had alot of types from all over the world. I’ve not yet had Westvleteren, but I find it hard to believe anything can be better than this beer. This is a shining jewel in the beer world. It is the Holy Grail (or is that ’Holy Ale?).
Best damn beer I’ve ever had!!! Except for their 10. I believe it to be the same beer with a lower alcohol content. Jerre (1410), Waregem, Belgium Jul 8, 2007 Bottle, 33 cl. Red brown color, with big off-white head. Aroma sweet malts, yeast, fruits. Medium body. Taste good malts, fruity touch.
Yes this is for me the most drinkable of the Rochefort brews. He have a great flavour and character of other Rochefort brews but it is less thick and rich.
guzzler (77), AE, Germany Jun 9, 2003 Reddish brown color with a creamy, long lasting head. Aroma of malt and fruit. The flavor is rich and sweet with hints of chocolate and licorice. Not as good as the #10 or #8, but an outstanding beer nonetheless. roder_60 (872), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA May 28, 2005 Updated: Jun 20, 2005Pours a dark mahogany with a small bit of light tan head. Aroma is delicious - malts, caramels, fruits and spice. Flavor was even better as its nutty caramel malt flavor balances perfectly with the plum/raisin fruit undertone and subtle spicy bite. Overall, I felt this was an extremely complex, but superbly balanced beer.
