detroitsteel (208), England Jan 12, 2007 Updated: Jan 14, 2007 Pours with a big brownish head that never quite vanishes. A cloudy brown in the glass. Malt, citrus fruit and mown grass in the nose. Take a sip and I got vintage port, citrus fruit, malt, toffee and a nice mince-pie flavour that lingers for a long time in the mouth. Long, pleasent after-taste. Good carbonation that lets the beer fizz on your tongue. Usually dark belgian beers are too malty for me, but maybe because of the lower alcohol content this was easier to drink. I seem to like the Rocheforts in reverse order to most drinkers, this first then the 8 and 10, though I would say the 8 is their best.
ironchefscott (174), long beach, California, USA May 13, 2008 a great double...I think I like this more than the westmalle....more roasted malt flavor...at least in the smaller bottles of the westmalle for comparason....great estery notes and I must say....wow I hope to drink more of this in the future...great dark redish brown color and also tons of dried fruit flavors in the finish that works well with the roasted malt flavors mybestfriend (185), Gothenburg, Sweden May 13, 2008 Bottle. Pours a reddish brown with a tan head. Aroma is spicy with notes of meat, sherry and dried fruit. Flavour is quite spicy with notes of meat, spices, roasted malts and fruit. Not bad - but I prefer the 10! lemasney (138), Trenton, New Jersey, USA May 12, 2008 Glass: Trappist

The apperence of this beer is just amazing, dark brown with a fluffy head that leaves a thin cover all over the glass. The flavor is bready with some dark fruit and a touch of chocolate. The palate is fantastic...lacks a bit of the complexity of 8 and 10 but it hardly matters as what is here is near perfect. I could drink this forever Brouwser (91), gatineau, Quebec, Canada May 10, 2008 Couleur ambrée brune.
