33 cl bottle purchased @ Pivni Galerie, Prague. Pours a somewhat cloudy garnet hue with smaller head than other rocheforts, same creamy look and texture though, and it’s lasted at least half an hour. Rather similar thematically to chimay blue just way less powerful; nice dark fruits on the nose, very creamy thorough all stages, slight marzipan and lavender; super smooth on the palate, initially quite foamy but still delectable, minimally tart but quaffable, understated alcohol warmth towards the finish, mildly minty hops linger on the palate. Another fine trappist from Rochefort; just because it’s less powerful than its older brothers doesn’t make it any less perfectly balanced and complex.

pours a swampy looking brown color with lots of clumpy yeast. it’s temporarily capped by a very aggressive light tan head. unknown fruity aroma followed by bubble gum, butterscotch/toffee candy, brown sugar, grain, vanilla, chocolate, yeast and a sting from alcohol/spice. there’s a light sweetness on the palate which is in no way off putting... flavors of brown sugar, yeast, co2, toasted nuts, malt and lots of that unknown fruitiness. alcohol and spiciness show up on the finish. clean... there seems to be no real aftertaste. medium body. prickly carbonation in the beginning settles down to leave a blah texture as it warms...

Pours dark ruby brown, heavy carbonation out of the bottle, fizzy head that collapses fairly quickly. Aroma is malty sweetness and alcohol... caramel, crystal malts? molassas, sugars. Flavor is malty caramel. Not overly complex for a trappist dubbel but still very good. Smooth, alcohol is well hidden, but then again it’s only 7.5%.

Oh my, so good! Dark brown. Cherry and pretty much every other dark fruit you can name. Yeast and spice, too. So smooth and with a nice zest.

500th rating, it’s been a nice trip. Looks, smells and tastes a lot like the 8 and 10 but is just ’less’ in everything. Pretty sweet, caramel, dark fruits, some mushrooms, overcarbonated. Clearly not as good as the 8 and 10, but that is worldclass.

A pour of beautiful dark brown colour and massive tan head. Unbelievable aroma of brown sugar, molasses, and earthy fruits. Flavour is pretty good, but not amazing for a trappist dubbel- caramel malts, dry fruit, and nuttiness play a major role in the taste. Mouthfeel is intricately smootyh and dances on my tongue. The high carbonation plays nicely with the thin bodied texture of the beer. A great beer, but from what i have heard, this is a average trappist.
