Brune opaque, mousse fine et crémeuse. Caramel, rôtie, (trop) forte pétillance, douceur fruitée, bière complexe. Assez différente de ses deux grandes soeurs, les 8 et 10.

11.2 oz bottle into a Duvel tulip. A: Pours a murky brown color. The head is a two finger white shade, looking a bit rough in texture. Retention isn’t very good, though it does seem to settle at being a thin film instead of fading completely. S: There’s really a lot going on in this one - raisins, plums, currants, cherries, caramel, brown sugar, apple, white grapes, chocolate, and some savory spices. Not as sweet as the 8 or 10, yet nearly as complex. T: At first, pleasant tartness from cherry and apple esters graces the palate. Afterwards it develops caramel and brown sugar flavors. The distant aftertaste has a spicy, herbal quality to it, seemingly from hops. I also note dark chocolate, tobacco, and some mild dark fruits. This isn’t the most eye-popping of brews; rather it’s elegant, subtle, and deep. I’ll take that over a big, brash monster any day. M: It’s not that rich or creamy, instead featuring an airy, slightly refreshing feel. Plenty of yeast astringency and carbonation is there to tickle the tongue. I kind of like the focus on drinkability here - it goes down more easily than the other two Rocheforts. O: What else can be expected here? It’s definitely the lightest of the Rocheforts and knows this fact; yet it can easily stand toe to toe with the other two in terms of complexity. Just another excellent trappist offering, really.

0.33 bottle. Small off-white head, no lacing. Hazy, dark amber color, looks like compote made of plums and apricots with a lot of non-mixable, yeasty sediment on the bottom. Very malty aroma, nuts and wood with a lot of fruits alongside, again a lot like a compote. It is relatively complex and intricate but not exceptionally nice. Taste is very complex; sweet with a bitter lining to it. Composed mostly of fruits with some malty additions, really balanced and pleasant. Medium body, somewhat creamy texture and very lively carbonation. Finish to my disappointment is only medium long, resembles the same flavors as the taste. Overall it is a nice and pleasant beer, but having heard so much about Rochefort I simply expected more. Though I must say I like its unimposing fruitiness, it stays put so to say and is not overly sweet or anything.

From a 33 cl bottle at home. Pours a cloudy brown with a thick of white head. Malty aroma. Flavors of red fruit with hints of caramel and toffee. Highly carbonated mouthfeel.. Smooth finish.

33cl from Mi-Orge Mi-Houblon. It pours a hazy amber in colour with a thin but big white head that slowly goes off. Some hoppy aroma, a quite sweet flavour with some notes of fruit but a sour end. A quite good beer, but not much complex that makes it a more regular one. Can be a excelent beer for those who look for a starting point in belgium beers.

Dark brown, off white head that disappeared. Toffee/caramel and raisin flavours-easy drinking beer, not heavy at all, bordering on being great but just lacking that little something (richness, complexity) -had better Belgians. Still happy to settle down with a few in front of the tv though-very pleasant.

Looks great after pour. Colour reminds me of shiny copper. Great head with nice retention and flaky bits of yeast sinking quickly to the bottom of the goblet. Smells fruity and somewhat sweet. Taste has great complexity with malts, bitterness, caramel sweetness and fruitiness. Generally dislike sweetness in beer, but this is in a class of its own. Marvelous! Must admit that I liked this more than the 8. Such great balance.
