COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer, the oldest of the three Rochefort Trappist beers, has the reddish colour of autumn leaves, a soft body and an earthy, herbal palate (a hint of Darjeeling tea), which develops into a deep fruitiness.

The date code stamped on the label stated L 21 02 12 08:23. I understand that indicates an expiration date of 2012, meaning a bottling date of February 2007. Poured into a large wine glass, the beer is a russet-orange color with a thick beige head. The head drops to a thin layer with moderate lacing. The aroma is muted with notes of caramel, spice and dark fruit. The flavor profile is on the mild side as well. Some dark cherries and bready yeast can be picked out, but there’s no particular flavor that stands out. There is a bit of alcohol warmth noted that’s more than I expected from the 7.5% ABV. The mouthfeel is smooth with a cider-like tang. The Rochefort 6 was an easy to drink beer that presents a very subtle aroma and flavor profile.

Hazy amber body with a thick beige head. Aroma is sweet fruit and herbs, yeast, caramel. Taste is medium sweet with low bitterness. Light body, thin texture. Light but not boring. And more importantly easy to drink.

330 ml bottle. Hazy dark amber color. Small creamy beige head. Candy-like herbal malt nose. Flavor is sweet and malty with notes of raisins, vanilla and brown sugar. Soft and drinkable with earthy yeast notes. Finish has a touch of red bell peppers and herbal hops. Simply delicious.

33 cl bottle @ home. Pours cloudy dark amber with some sediment and an off-white head that leaves a little lacing. Aroma and flavour are caramel, dried fruit, sugar, and yeast - with a slightly dry finish.

Just as good as the 10, but nicely different. More earthy, more what I’d expect as Trappist, but what am I saying, these guys pretty much invented the stuff. Herbal yet had the dried fruit balance. Stunning brew.a++++

Transfer from BA review on 7-21-13- Poured from bottle into a chalice glass Appearance – The beer pours a murky copper brown color with a big and billowy cream colored head. The head fades very rapidly leaving only a trace level of lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The smell is a nice mix of dark fruits, some sugary smells and a bit of nut. The dark fruit is of a raisin and plum nature while the sugary smells being more of a caramel and candied sugar nature. The nut is of a nondescript roasted nuttiness and is accompanied by some notes of a more brown bready nature. Taste – The taste begins with a sweeter fruit and sugary flavor. As the nose suggested the fruit is of a darker nature with flavors of plum and grape. The sugary taste upfront are of a candied sugar and brown sugar nature. A bit of roasted brown bread is present upfront and through the taste, creating a base for the other flavors to stand on. More toward the middle of the taste, flavors of spice, apple and yeast come to the tongue with the spice being largely of a cardamom nature. At the end, a bit of booziness, some earthiness, and some nut all come to the tongue, with these flavors drying out the taste ever so slightly and creating a rather satisfying fruit flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is rather average in terms of thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is slightly above average. Neither were bad for the style, but overall a little more creaminess and a bit less carbonation may have made for a slightly more enjoyable feel for the flavors. Overall – A tasty and rather enjoyable dubbel. It is renowned for good reason and one to go to from time to time.

Pours chestnut-brown with soft white head. Yeasty, malty scents with dominant butterscotch notes and some medium light chocolate. Rather light bodied with emphasis on sweetness and some lightly roasted malty notes. No bitterness and a decent finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Reddish-brown color with medium, white and unsustainable head. Aroma of dark fruits, spices, alcohol, caramel and toffee. There is also a hint of cereals. Taste is fruity (plums, raisins), caramel and malty. Some alcoholic bitterness. Carbonation is little to high. Not as good as 10 but it’s still a very good beer.
