COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer, the oldest of the three Rochefort Trappist beers, has the reddish colour of autumn leaves, a soft body and an earthy, herbal palate (a hint of Darjeeling tea), which develops into a deep fruitiness.

Pours a deep dark mahogany with medium off-white head that sticks around for a long time. Aroma of yeast, caramelized sugar, bread, raisins, a some liquorice. Flavor matches well, but is a little sweeter than I would like. Very solid and enjoyable.

Pours a brown body with a medium and lasting head. Nice malty aroma with tones of sugars and dried fruit. Very nice taste but it lacks a little bottom, could be richer.

Colore ambrato/arancione, schiuma abbondante. Odore molto fruttato, albicocca, maltato, erbaceo. Frizzantezza medio-alta, sapore dolce fruttato, malto, leggero caramello, con un bel finale secco.

Hazy amber, tall head, leaving a thick film after some minutes. The aroma is fruity (prune and citrus), yeasty (earth), malty (candy, caramel, butterscotch). Nice & complex. Medium body, alcohol well hidden. The taste is more dry than that of many Belgian ales. Notably earthy, citric, minty, with some roast acidity, minimal candy sweetness. Also smooth bitterness near finish. Malt & yeast & hops in aftertaste. Great.

Bottle. Pours hazy orange Amber with big lasting head, some yeast. Aroma is yeast, apricots, sweet dried fruits, toasty caramel malt, figs and raisins. Got the candied sugar as well. Slight tobacco. Taste is very similar, but with some sweet port grapes and raisins. Really soft mouthfeel. Light toasty and dry finish. Really quaffable.

Botttle from Plonk. Clear pale red brown. Huge bubbly head. Flavour is malty with some fruity yeast esters. High carbonation, somewhat thin mouthfeel. Sweet up front with dry, lightly bitter and slight warming alcohol finish. Nice.

This dubbel almost sings to me when it is poured. Foam is great and the small bubbles the form of bursts loudly when they burst, and it already sounds promising. Foam fades over time into a thin layer. As expected, it has an inviting aroma of fruit. I think its plums and figs I can smell, but it is also clearly something citrus in its aroma. The flavor has a light citrus and a slightly more acidic fruity flavor that ends up in a warming malt sweetness. Mouth feeling is something special, relatively easy and very frothy and live. Can almost be compared slightly with champagne. As the other two Rochefort is no. 6 a class of its own, and I highly recommend it. I think really it will be great for cheese.
